I found this loose in my engine bay and couldn't quite figure out what it is from searching the forums. I thought it was a bump stop for the hood but did not see another one on the other side. Its about 2 inches long and the rubber part is about a cm in diameter

Hi, it was the dust shield in the rear output of the transfer case. It had become loose and was bouncing around in there. We replaced it along w the bearing and seal.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna try to check the wheel bearings this week. I think I can handle replacing the bearing assembly, but if its the CV axle I dont think thats doable at my skill level...
