Definitely replace the lower ball joints if not done. OEM only. Low cost compared to what happens in the event of a failure.
The Tundra Brake Upgrade (TBU) is a straightforward, beneficial upgrade - but not necessary. I completed the upgrade on my runner in October. I have front and rear...
Cheers - I'll have a look. Did yours come with injector washers/seals? The set I priced out from AUS had washers included. My trouble was, I could get my injectors rebuilt here in Alberta for around $460, but they couldn't source washers. I was then looking at around $100 (postage) just for a...
Very interesting.
I was about to purchase some *new* complete injectors from a place in Australia. The exchange rate puts them cheaper than having mine rebuilt, plus I'll still have my used injectors to rebuild/reuse in the future if needed.
As much as I'd like to purchase my own nozzles and...
Impressive figures! If the poor man's dyno is correct, you've more than doubled the stock output - reliably too.
I've been hoping to get mine intercooled ... it's a daunting project for someone who's never worked with pipe before.
That will be fine for your climate I'm sure. I ran some of the 10w30 last year no issues. I'm about to do my winter change - here in southern Alberta we can see -35 and below so I'll be running some 5w or 0w. I did 0w last winter and all was well.
Can confirm BD7029 is the correct filter, I...
I've been interested in the TD04 upgrade as well, but the idea of spending $$$$$ on a custom manifold puts me off. The adapter seems a better route. Where will you be getting yours?
I'll update this thread with good news!
A new balancer (non-OEM) arrived today from 4wheel Auto in Edmonton, along with a new timing cover gasket!
It was slow at work, so I messed around in the back of the shop where the truck has been sitting. Thankfully I remembered how to put everything...
Wow! And thanks to you for encouraging me to check out the crankshaft/pulley closely.
We did not use a proper puller last time - I'm sure that shortened its lifespan. $40 puller from Canadian Tire and it came off nice and smoothly. I am really hoping this is what was causing the noise. The...
Well, got things apart this evening - the balancer is definitely starting to separate. Small cracks, plus I can flex the outer metal side to side by hand... Definitely loose.
Removed the timing cover, timing is still spot on - truck runs fine so I didn't expect any different.
Just want to...
Awesome build! The 5.9's are great engines, can't wait to see this progress.
Will the 80 frame handle the heavy 6bt well, or will you be looking at some hefty reinforcements?
I work in diesel parts, we sell cylinder heads - and when I'm assembling the little 4bt heads I daydream about shoving...
Thanks for the replies!
GTSSportCoupe, aside from watching the pulleys while it runs, how can I diagnose the balancer when I take it off? If it isn't visibly starting to separate, what else can I look for? Pulling things apart this weekend.
I'm hoping to have more time to dig into it this coming week, I'm wondering if it was pulled too roughly / incorrectly when the main seal was done. I read that they are easy to damage while removing.
Here's a video of the pulley while running, note the slight wobble on the inside grooves while...
A few weeks back, seemingly overnight, my 1991 Surf SSR-G (2LTE) became much louder while running.
So far it is difficult to narrow down, but sounds closer to the top of the engine. I put a screwdriver to my ear and poked around but could not pinpoint it.
I haven't had much time to dig into it...
