Personally I would spray it down with a hose first that way you can see how far the heat spreads. But the main key is as soon as your done you hit it with a hose again so you can paint it sooner without it being exposed to the environment and moisture

@Robrhesa17 Vin states it’s a 1960 fj25. Do you have a picture of it? And the engine is super easy to tell the difference between a 2f and 1f by looking at it. Valve cover is the easiest glance to say 2f 1f.

Sounds like it’s time for a LS swap, just make sure you weld those motor mounts in really hot on the vertical welds and you’ll be good to go.
