Tool loaner thread… not for mooches.

I don't have such a trailer, but I've rented similar trailers from Uhaul numerous times. If you strike out borrowing one, I think that what you need would likely only set you back $30-40 at Uhaul.

What have you been doing with your Toyota?

I bet it was a cost savings. Less machining and fewer fasteners.

What have you been doing with your Toyota?

It's got a set of "fancy" Mickey Thompson aluminum covers with only 4 bolts holding them on. I'm pretty sure they are the cork gaskets on it now. I can't see they wouldn't be a bit warped with only 4 bolts. Maybe I'll replace the gaskets with the set I have and some permatex and see what...

2025 40s Only Run planning thread

Yikes! We got back to the house and immediately took showers and changed clothes since we both reeked of burned oil. Still, I'm glad we went. Chances to do stuff like that with my dad get fewer every year. My daughter is getting more and more interested in going for a ride in the 40 though, so I...

That could be. One of the best things a club like ours can and should be doing is educating everyone about trail etiquette and stewardship. Those are the things that build community and keep trails open.

What have you been doing with your Toyota?

I'll definitely take you up on that! It's drivers side on this engine. I don't know that it's not the valve covers as well, but it's a bad enough leak that I think rear main is likely. I have gaskets for the valve covers, so maybe I just swap those out next weekend and see. I've also got a...

What have you been doing with your Toyota?

I took my dad out for his first trail ride in my FJ40. He's visiting from Michigan and my 40 never seems to be 100% mechanically sound when he's here; this trip was no exception. The rear main leak has not improved with 2 bottles of stop leak, but I packed extra oil and kept an eye on the oil...

2025 40s Only Run planning thread

I'm pretty bummed I missed this, but I would have worried the whole time and smoked everyone out with my rear main leak. My dad and I did take the 40 out this weekend though. We ran the Ringing Rocks trail. I lost my oil fill cap about 15 miles in. The resulting vacuum leak made it a little...

    GMRS radio recommendations

I do think that GMRS is the new universal comms method for casual users. I've had interference or busy channels just about every time I've used it. That's why I suggest people make the effort to get the ham license. I know that there have been two-day test prep classes put on in the past. My...

    GMRS radio recommendations

Yes, many clubs hold tests monthly. Since COVID, many clubs have been providing online testing. You can find an online test here: hamstudy.org. You can find an in-person or online test here: arrl.org I really liked using hamexam.org when I was studying for my test. I read over the question pool...

    GMRS radio recommendations

I would encourage everyone to put in the (very minimal) effort to study for and pass the test to get a ham license. That license allows you to use much more powerful radios and opens up a lot of possibilities. However, the test has proven to be been an "impossible" barrier for lots of people...

2025 40s Only Run planning thread

I'm going to be a no-show on this one. I've got family who have decided to come to town that weekend. I'm bummed. This is, hands-down, my favorite event the club does. I'll work on the truck and come back strong for this event in '26.

    Buying, Selling & Trading

I have a friend who stopped by the side of the road to adjust some stuff in his cargo area. Another driver rear ended him at a fairly high speed; smashing his pelvis between the two vehicles. He was in a coma and it was hit or miss whether he would survive for a long time. He did survive, but he...
