I always keep my other Smog Pump with me, along with replacement belts (and screws, and hoses, and...) I can't afford to be stranded on a long trip. It's a pain to carry it, but it's worth it. Good luck!

I didn't. Just coated it and prayed.

No worries. Those alignment dowels took a two pound mallet and a punch for me to get rid of. Also, if you don't already have it, buy yourself a tube of high temp grease. I coated the rear bearing with that before putting it all back together. Mine runs like a charm. TAC

So I was doing maintenance on my '84 60 (The Beast). Changed out the sparks, installed my new degutted original smog pump, cleaning as I go. Then I found this... I don't know if it's been missing since I owned it (3 years) or it recently came off. And I really have no idea what it is... don't...

Unfortunately, I am in a smog state. I just can't have that pump seize up on a trip, but I need the appearance of having an active smog pump for emissions. So yeah, the pulley would be great. Just a pain for me to remove it every two years, replace the SP, then back again. Sooo much fun.

Quick question (know this an old thread but hoping). Trying to gut my smog pump. Having a devil of a time prying open the back (where the hose connectors are). Anyone have any tips? Thanks

Got the Beast ('84 60 series) finally out of the shop... I made an Instagram post, but I'll just post the pics and the explanation here. In November, I hit a deer. Deer died, I was fine, Beast needed work. Was the night before my birthday, of course. Waited for a long while, and finally got her...

That's the plan... and I do live at the foothills of the Rockies, so once the $$ starts to flow again, this is seriously going to happen.

They actually said there wasn't as much rust as they expected, which surprised me. And it surprised them. They really thought there'd be more.

So back on November 1st (The day before my birthday), I hit a deer. So I saved cash, until the end of February, I put my 84 in the shop for a complete body job and paint job. (Keeping it the same color. I like the blue). I wasn't worried about it. She's my DD, but hey, I had basketball... Oy...
