Been getting the Beast (84 FJ60) ready to replace carpeting (Stripping, cleaning, sound dampening), and found this.
Not exactly sure what it is, and figured someone could identify it. (not even certain what to search for)
Thanks in advance!

Gas gauge sending unit. That tells the gauge how much gas is left in the tank. There's a rod and float attached in the tank.

Thats how you access the fuel tank sender.

It's just a cover for a hole through the floor to access the top of the gas tank where the fuel level sender is located. You can take the cover off without messing with anything. If you are installing sound deadener, you might want to leave the cover open or cut the deadener so you can find the cover and get it off if needed in the future.

What he says!! Open it, and clean the connections while you’re there.

Also the easiest way to take a look inside the tank for the rust monster. ;)
