    Unexplained coolant loss

Does it look like coolant is leaving the overflow bottle? In think that is the most likely place for coolant to escape if you have head gasket issue, in particular if you're saying more is getting lost on longer drives. Pressure in the cylinder is highest, exhaust gases press through the gasket...

    1992 FJ80 3FE hard start/won’t stay running issue

well, if the fusible link blew - that is a sign there must be something wrong with the electrical system? Likely a short somewhere? As much as I distrust the aftermarket AFMs, I don't see how they would blow the fusible link even if wildly defective.

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Confirmed my stock hitch relocation was successful... ... in so far as it doesn't scrape more than the rear cross member Which was still scraping too much, eventually could go neither forward nor backward and had to winch it out ;-)

1993 FZJ80 FPR Custom Fitting Help!

I don't know where to get this - but also interested in having one if there is a source! Not having this, a while ago in a pinch I removed the FPR and jerry-rigged a pressure gauge directly into the rail. Allowed me to confirm that my fuel pressure was way too low. Edit - not sure if it's a...

    1992 FJ80 3FE hard start/won’t stay running issue

regarding the AFM - just be mindful that passing the FSM resistance check does not confirm the AFM works correctly. It just means that it does something, but it does not confirm the AFM is measuring the air volume correctly. Also given you said the AFM was replaced, and given these have not...

    Ongoing issues with CEL 25, 25/26 on 94 fzj80

One more thing: If you don't have it already, I think it's worth getting a bluetooth OBD 1 reader like this here: OBD1READ with Bare wires - https://zf-scantools.com/index.php?rt=product/product&path=71&product_id=126 You can connect an Android app to it and conveniently see the main parameters...

    Ongoing issues with CEL 25, 25/26 on 94 fzj80

Agree with @BTLSHP - best to confirm the systems listed in FSM one by one are to spec. Only thing I would offer additionally based on my experience: The VAF FSM check is very basic. It just confirms that the temp sensor gives reasonable values, and that the VAF flow mechanism isn't completely...

Your thoughts on buying a 80 series in 2025

Actually, one way to back up my numbers: - there are about 3,300 posts in the "80series registry" thread here on mud. Not all of these are real entries, there are also a lot of comments in there. Let's say there are 2,000 real registration posts - total global production was about 550,000...

Your thoughts on buying a 80 series in 2025

@WarDamnEagle I don't have any concrete numbers, and not claiming my numbers are precise by any means. It is impressive you have had yours for such a long time, and maintained it well! Congratz! :clap:I'm somewhat jealous :) However, I would still suggest that situations like yours are the...

Your thoughts on buying a 80 series in 2025

Just to be clear I'm not "poo-pooing" the fact I have an 80. I love to drive and wrench on it, and also the fact that it is far more offroad capable than any modern rig other than maybe a Jeep Wrangler, that I can think of. Maybe I am particularly incompetent or have a particularly bad example...

Your thoughts on buying a 80 series in 2025

Just from my experience owning one now that is 32 years old, having had one 20 years ago that was 15 years old at the time and having looked at many examples before buying: I cannot even see how most of them would be reliable today. It's not only the things that break, but also all the things...

    No start 8/93 production date

Have you measured the resistance across the park neutral switch? Either at the switch, or at the connector, or even further up at the ECU? If it's more than 1 Ohm or so it's no good. See table with which pins should have connectivity when, here: Neutral Start Switch (NSS) Removal -...

Your thoughts on buying a 80 series in 2025

Seems like you've thought about this and choosing it for the right reason! The joy of owning, driving and maintaining a classic / exotic vehicle. In general I would be cautious recommending a 80series as a reliable / cost efficient DD. If that is the main motivation, I think it will end up in...

    Registry 80 Series Registry

Hi All! I've already posted a few times, maybe now time for a official registry intro :) I grew up with a 1991 HDJ80 that my family had for a very long time. Spent thousands of hours in that car as a kid, also pretty much the first car I ever drove myself. Now supper happy owner of a rust free...
