Power at the campsite and truck battery back up

I believe its due to the LiPo (lithium-polymer) chemistry, not capaciters. Caps can deliver a lot of current, but its more an instantaneous thing, not like 10-20 seconds of cranking a stubborn car engine over. I run LiPo batteries in my RC cars and a pack not much bigger than a deck of playing...

My 2 year second battery, solar and Wit’send rear quarter panel project

The most I've seen on my 100w GZ panel has been about 70w, and that was with really optimizing the angle to the sun on a sunny day. A few degrees off and it would drop a few watts. You are never likely to get 100w out of a 100w panel. Those numbers are tested under lab conditions to give a...

Power at the campsite and truck battery back up

I carry a jump starter pack and recently got a Yeti 400 lithium and 100 W panel. The Yeti will be used for running my fridge and charging phones, lights, etc. I wanted something portable so I could easily use it in my FJ, our trailer, or home during power outtages.

Adding Fused Circuits the Toyota Way

Thank you so much for posting this! Ive already maxed out the number of add-a-circuits to my fuse block, which for me was 4. At some point I'll follow your instructions and clean it up and add some more circuits.

    FJ Frame Failures

😮 Wow, that looks really bad! Good luck, I hope Toyota does the right thing and fixes it!

Yeah, that was my point. Measuring voltage doesn't tell you much about your panel's output, you really need to be measuring current or, better yet, power. The OP should not assume he's getting good output (power) from his panel because he measured 15-18 volts, it could be putting out next to...

My 2 year second battery, solar and Wit’send rear quarter panel project

Doing some reading, trying to learn. From the reading I've done, it looks as if the voltage is affected fairly little by of the amount incident light whereas the current changes much more drastically: "An important feature of solar cells is that the voltage of the cell does not depend on its...

My 2 year second battery, solar and Wit’send rear quarter panel project

I'm still learning about solar panels, but wouldn't the current output be affected more than voltage depending on how much light it was receiving? I would think that in poor lighting you could still have 16-18V but only be pushing an amp or two. It's watts that you want out of it, not voltage...

Nice work! Couple thoughts, for whatever they're worth. To get max power out of your panel you really need to track the sun with it, i.e. make sure it's pointed toward the sun. With it on your windshield like that, you would need to move your truck periodically through the day to keep...

Wow, cool! It's funny, me and a colleague at work were just talking today about having a school body shop work on project cars.

Lets see some pics of your FJ Cruisers

Yeah, still running front and rear sways. I DD my FJ and didn't like the way it drove with the front bar disconnected. And that was before putting a heavy tent on the roof. I need some longer rear springs to compensate for all the weight, i may go with the MT LT progressives. Then later I can...

Thanks, lots of great info in there. Here's with my current rear setup, it's respectable at least, but room for improvement (always!). Sorry for the poor quality, the pics are screen grabs from a video a buddy of mine took (this was on the Mojave Rd). Here's the video.

Looks like your rear suspension works great! Got a build thread or any info about your "budget long travel rear"? I also like the look of the 2" front, seems like a good compromise between stock and 3".
