    FJ40 front axle question

Gotcha, well if no one else chimes in with an experience I might just give it a try. In theory the 79-85 units should be really, really close in length. And you confirmed that the hub will bolt up. It's a mild trail rig, so a stock fine spline outer will make me happy from a strength...

    FJ40 front axle question

What specifically is it about the fine spline outer axles that make them incompatible with the '71 FJ40 knuckles? Different length? Is the hub bolt pattern different?

    FJ40 front axle question

So I've got a '71 FJ40 that was already converted to disc brakes years ago with an aftermarket kit. So still running the stock outer axle setup. I'd love to get rid of the course spline outers and old Warn barrel hubs. Will a set of early mini truck outer axles and hubs bolt up by themselves...

    Build Project Boomerang

I have a few pics in my build thread (that I have done a poor job of updating). Short answer is I swapped an 8" rear out of a 4runner. New spring perches and shock mounts was about all it took. Pretty simple and huge aftermarket for both the axle and the D300 which is nice...

    Build Project Boomerang

It's neat they have an adapter to the Toyota Tcase. I don't think that existed when I did mine. Ended up swapping to a D300, which is a bunch more work but ultimately stronger anyways. I probably would have gone your route though if it had been available.

Fantastic. I've got a couple thousand miles on my AX15 setup now and its been great.

    Build Project Boomerang

Yeah, let me know any questions you have. It's long but really not bad. My rear driveshaft is probably a good 2 feet long so zero issues. LC has about the same wheelbase as a YJ so its not a particularly tight fit. Couple interesting notes on the AX15: - Its still in production. You can pick up...

    Build Project Boomerang

I was in the same boat. Didn't need the granny gear, wanted something that didn't shift like a truck. I'd had several vehicles with AX15's over the years and always liked them so ended up with that. It's probably a bit more work than the H55 but gives me something unique and drives...

    Holley Sniper or Howell?

I've owned both. Either one is a huge step up from a carb. I really like the packaging of the Sniper. Having the ECU and everything in the throttle body makes installation simple and clean. If you have the time/interest it also provides a lot of tunability. It takes more fiddling that the...

Yeah, I'm basically giving the thing away. Tired of tripping over it. Neat setup for someone looking to run an auto.

Crater Lake, Oregon vacation property build thread - BASE CAMP ⛺️

Really enjoying this thread. I'm in the process of building out a bare piece of land so lots of interesting stuff here. Couple of questions on the power stuff, knowing of course that every region will be a bit different. - With you doing the bulk of the prep work yourself, how was the cost...

Taking the hard path '71 FJ40

Got the power steering pump replaced, works much better now. Been driving around town a whole bunch and the new transmission works really well. Got bored today and decided to start replacing the rocker panels. Started on drivers side, which is the better of the two. The rocker was a mess but...
