Adding BT to JDM 100 with Nav--thoughts?

Bought a 1999 JDM UZJ100 (with Nav-ugh) in Feb. Would love to be able to listen to music in it; if I could just get BT streaming working, I'd be pretty content. Challenges: FM frequencies in Japan are different than here (with just a couple MHz overlap), so no radio. Radio sucks anyway...

    Wah Wah Wah in Overdrive

Looks like you have a bunch of options for driveshaft shops in your area—I take pride in doing my own work but put driveshafts, CVs, and alignments in a “I’ll pay a pro with the right stuff to do it in 10 minutes” category…I accidentally pulled apart a CV axle on our old Volvo and, after many...

Well, shoot. Plugs matched up but no climate control function? I’ve heard of other people encountering (but I think usually overcoming) this with similar nav replacements in US spec 100s, but you troubleshot it with the manufacturer and couldn’t get it working? Or did you only kind of try...

So sorry to hear that, but sure glad you got a refund! Did you try the aftermarket head unit on the rusty white one or the one you just got (which is JDM non-nav or AUS spec?)? Sounds like you landed on your feet—a non-nav 100 will be so much easier to sort out sound in; hope it treats you well!!

An Any update? You were awaiting both truck and head unit, right?

What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

Replaced all rear sway bar bushings on our ‘04 (this unfortunately didn’t solve the clatter coming from the back on bumpy roads) and replaced the passenger side downstream O2 sensor (again) in the hope of getting rid of the last remaining code—bought Toyota this time instead of denso after...

Show pics of your backup camera install.

Mine do. I recall maybe reading that for some backup cameras there’s a wire you can snip to eliminate the guide lines but didn’t even look into that for my install as I find them slightly helpful and don’t have a better option, which it sure sounds like you do!

Sounds great! Thanks for finding that—please keep us posted on your install. If it works well for you I’ll get one too!

Sure looks like this might work—the unit in this photo with the check mark sure looks like a JDM unit…. This would be pretty exciting, as it would a) replace my cracked screen b) give me music, and c) presumably give me a many in English!

I’ve tried BT and 3.5mm cassette adapters, and they sound terrible in mine. Borrowed a cassette from a friend (a not-that-great Rolling Stones album) And it sounds fine, so I blame the adapters. CD player sounds pretty good when it decides to work—half the time I get a Japanese message saying...

Sure! (Not anything like morning here—very dark driveway and no dome lights as I just pulled the headliner today, so please excuse the lighting!)

What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

Pulled out the headliner on our JDM UZJ so the paint less dent repair wizard can repair some hail damage. I was waaay too worried about the rear AC control—it came off in my hand quite easily once the rest of the headliner was loose….

Yeah, I'd happily can the nav, as the disc doesn't have US map features, screen is broken, interface is 25 years old, etc. But I cannot live without the climate control. (well, I suppose I can, but it would kind of suck) Looking forward to seeing what you find out as you try to convert to...

The weird thing is that my 99 JDM with nav does NOT have the same plugs as the US models with nav, which might spell trouble for your conversion. But I like your automotive electrician idea…I’m pretty good with simple 12v stuff but fairly awful with wiring diagrams…

Please let me know how that goes—do you happen to know if that’s easier than converting a US model from nav to non-nav? (Which appears to be a major undertaking) If it’s a plug-n-play conversion I’d love to do the same—I just ordered a JDM CD magazine to replace the missing one and get some...
