    Water pump source?

Can anyone recommend a source for purchasing GMB 170-1890? I've looked quite a bit and everywhere has been Out of Stock.

    Kenda Klever R/T or BFG All-Terrain KO2?

I have not taken my Kendas off the pavement yet, but they ride very nice on the road and fit great with my 2" Dobinsons lift.

Fuji carb (21100-61012) solenoid wire connection on a '79

In my case, I connected the single red wire to the solenoid connection on the Fuji carb and it works great. When I had the Weber 38 installed, that red wire was connected to it... I believe for the electric choke.

Build My new '79 FJ40 build thread

Hi, @S.CarolinaFZJ80. I've been reading through this build thread and came across post #215, related to correcting the cruiser lean issues. I, too, have a '79, and have also replaced the worn out stock suspension with the Dobinsons leaf springs. I still have about a 7/8 to 1 inch lean to the...

    Whistling sound at engine idle

Hey, all - a few weeks after putting on new OEM engine belts, I started getting a "whistling" sound when the engine comes up to temperature and the engine is at idle speed. I have triple-checked my belt tension(s) and they are within spec. Using a mechanic's stethoscope, it seems like the...

    North Texas Powder Coaters

Cost was $125 per rim, which includes bath, sandblast, prime and powder coat. The entire rim is powder coated, not just the face; another place I talked to in Frisco only powder coats the face. The optional tire service is $25 per rim. I paid an additional $60 for the color, since it was not...

FJ40 OEM wheel powder coating RAL codes

Not a RAL code, but I just had local powder coater refinish my FJ40 15" steel rims. I went there with the idea of either using RAL 7037, 7040 or 7042, but the owner compared one of the Prismatic Powders colors, Crest Grey, and it looked identical to the color of my existing rims (under the...

    North Texas Powder Coaters

On the above recommendations, I just had Unit F14 powder coat my FJ40 15" steel rims. I went there with the idea of either using RAL 7037, 7040 or 7042, but Drew (the owner) compared one of the Prismatic Powders colors, Crest Grey, and it looked identical to the color of my existing rims (under...

    Rear crossmember: repair or replace?

Interesting, I'm kinda surprised how much I can shape it with a 12" crescent wrench. As for thickness, it is 10 gauge. I'm gonna take a shot at how much I can shape it with hand tools and no heat, and we'll see how it goes. Thanks for all of your insights above!

    Rear crossmember: repair or replace?

My '79 has some fairly booger'd/bent/warped ends on the rear crossmember (pics below), and I would like some insights on the best approach to resolve it. Here is my current thinking on options: Reshape existing crossmember, using heat, clamps, hammer, etc. For heating, I would need an...

Any tips on installing new hanger pins for leaf springs (Dobinson's kit)?

Thanks for the help, y'all. So, I got both front and rear suspension installed now. Here are some notes/observations that may be helpful to others: For the rear hanger pins, I had to round off the lip of the hanger seat in order for it to fit through the eye in the chassis. I also filed on...

Any tips on installing new hanger pins for leaf springs (Dobinson's kit)?

I don't think that the hanger pin is straight at the moment, but I'm confident that the sides are not bent. I think that one side just isn't fully seated, and some targeted hammering will get that to fully seat.

Any tips on installing new hanger pins for leaf springs (Dobinson's kit)?

Sad to hear about some negative experiences with the Dobinsons stuff. I bought the kit back in May because I had read pretty good stuff about it. Hopefully I got a good setup, will chime in once I get it all installed.

Any tips on installing new hanger pins for leaf springs (Dobinson's kit)?

Ok, I got it in, mostly. I did take a metal file to the inside of the pin seat and removed the hard angle so that it did just barely taper. Then, I greased the pin seat and the eye, and hammered on it to get it started. I think the real trick here was to incrementally snug the 2 machine...
