Builds Red Dawn (60 converted 62 Build Thread w/ R2.8)

Thats awesome! Yeah, the new motor is really growing on me, truth be told, acceleration up to 40ish doesnt feel terribly different then the 12HT diesel I had before but the R2.8 really shines in 5th! Almost seems limitless... kinda wished I had a 6th gear lol

Builds Red Dawn (60 converted 62 Build Thread w/ R2.8)

Just caught up on your build! Well done... that radiator/intercooler is a beautiful work of art. I am just putting the finishing touches on my R2.8 conversion in my '87 HJ61... she has been my daily driver for a whole 5 days now! : ) Thanks for the pics of your exhaust, and the tip on that...

This item is no longer available - Cummins 2.8 Install

Great work! Keep the posts coming! I just finished (Is it ever really finished?) up my R2.8 install on my '87 HJ61. Its cool to see how people tackle issues in different ways. I went with the QuickDraw adapter, but truth be told would have loved to not have had to modify my...

    HJ60 clutch booster

Awesome! Glad to hear that it's working so well you thought it was broken 🤣. Enjoy that race spec clutch!

    HJ60 clutch booster

Do you feel suction on that line with your thumb when you pull it off the booster?

    HJ60 clutch booster

That's interesting, I didn't have any issues like that with mine... You could pull the master cylinder away from the booster and ensure that the push rod is engaging properly. If you separate the master from the booster you will have an opportunity to measure the distance of push rod travel. I...

    HJ60 clutch booster

I just wanted to circle back and let you know that that clutch booster worked like a charm! It fit perfect, the dimensions seemed to be identical to the original and it appears to be working really well... Even more so, that this is the first time, since I have owned the truck that the vacuum...

    HJ60 clutch booster

Ill just lob it over the border for you! :D

    HJ60 clutch booster

So, I too, am in a similar boat... In the process of diagnosing a failed clutch master cylinder, I saw quite a bit of leaking migrating through the clutch booster itself- I'm assuming a perforation in the membrane... but haven't opened it up yet. I ordered THIS from Amazon. It looks like the...

    Need a 12HT!

Well, looks like I'm going the rebuild route. I started ripping into her yesterday. There is a few things that I have been wanting to take a look at for awhile, so I will use this opportunity to refurbish/ replace/rebuild a few things on the front of my HJ. I tore most of the front end off...

    Need a 12HT!

Well... after a bunch of weird and even intermittent issues, it finally started blowing blue smoke out of the exhaust... I took the HJ down to a local diesel shop, they pulled the head after some bad compression readings on cyl 1 and 2, and oddly enough, some eroded head gasket material between...

    Need a 12HT!

Thats a heck of a lot closer than S. Africa or Oz... I'd love to talk to him!

    Need a 12HT!

I could be interested. Excuse my ignorance but what does NOS stand for?

    LS Swap?

I need to clarify... I am still looking at all the options. In the end, I want reliability and longevity... All of the pros for having a 12ht has evaded me. The motor has self destructed at 114k miles, I replaced the turbo 5k miles ago, I have had to work on all sorts of things since I got it...

    Need a 12HT!

I was wondering if anyone knows where I could get a remanufactured 12HT? The one out of my HJ61 self destructed recently and I need a new motor! If not remanufactured at least rebuilt by someone who really knows Toyota Diesels? Ive been pondering everything from Isuzu diesels to the classic...
