1971 it has the 2F engine. Just tested the alternator and it's working fine. The battery was really bad. Swapped the battery and then also checked the spark plugs. They were burnt to a crisp. Swapped them out and realized how rich the engine was running. It won't idle now. Blows black smoke...

My FJ 55 is running so rich it just stalls out instead of idles. It has a weber carb. The choke is all the way open instead of closed. And i pulled out the spark plugs and they are black and burnt. Recently rebuilt the carb, float bowl seems fine, jets fine, might have set the idle screw wrong...

so my battery won't hold a charge. Brand new battery. I think the alternator isn't working. What would be the quickest replacement in the Pittsburg area? Any chance it can be rebuilt? Or has anyone replaced it with a newer more available one? Thanks!

Yeah just screwed it all the way and and about to start and quarter turn it back till it idles well. Will update w/ in the hour. I noticed I think the choke was stuck open. Could have been the cause. It's electrically controlled. So just temporarily disconnected it and left it closed. Going...

Took apart the carb. The float is fine. Thought it would have been filled with gas and that's what caused it not to float. But everything seems to check out okay. Cleaning it and putting it back together with the new gaskets. Any other ideas as to what could flood the engine to hydrolock it?
