FJ60 alternator conversion - trouble with "stock wiring" on 1974 FJ40

I'll check for that jumper plug to fix it up proper later; shipped the truck out early in January. TY

FJ60 alternator conversion - trouble with "stock wiring" on 1974 FJ40

My apologies for the very late reply - I had plans to follow up with the various threads I posted to get help with this truck, then had to cut the project short. When everything else was good (and there were a LOT of things off, haha), the terrible Weber that had sat for several years failed to...

1974 F.5 - head locations of heater hose nipple and two temperature senders

Gotcha, thanks! So this thing currently has a Weber carb on it, and to my knowledge never had EGR or anything. When you say "goes behind carb" do you mean it screws into the original carb?...or where should it go exactly?

1974 F.5 - head locations of heater hose nipple and two temperature senders

In parts diagrams I only found 83420-20011 listed as "gage assembly, water temperature sender" on the head, and Googling for images seems to match the 4-K unit (doesn't have the extra-long tip of the 8-M). Could somebody have swapped the harness on the car for a different model?

1974 F.5 - head locations of heater hose nipple and two temperature senders

OK here are the pics. 4-K: 8-M: ...both have "teq" stamps on them. Not even sure if they're original, given how trashed and jury-rigged everything on this truck was/is. But there are two spade terminals from the wiring harness which went to them.

FJ60 alternator conversion - trouble with "stock wiring" on 1974 FJ40

Hey guys. Still working on this 1974 FJ40, tying up loose ends before it leaves the state in a few days. Have to do an FJ60/2F "internally"-regulated alternator conversion to accommodate the FJ60 clutched water pump that I put in, and am running into some trouble with wiring. @Coolerman made me...

1974 F.5 - head locations of heater hose nipple and two temperature senders

Thanks for all the replies guys, I swapped the heater hose nipple to the correct location. One follow-up question: one of my senders is stamped "4K" and the other "8M": I assume that's the max resistance value. Which one goes where/which one is towards the back of the head? TIA.

SOLD San Jose, CA: FJ40 radiator

Thanks guys, I picked one up for a decent clip that had a header plate leak; I would've bought one from City Racer when I was just there, but the leaky one was already being recored at a local radiator shop. All done now! Closing out the thread.

SOLD  San Jose, CA: FJ40 radiator

Hey guys, I need an OE radiator for my 1974 FJ40. It's OK if it's not great looking as long as it doesn't leak (it'll be going to a radiator shop for a refresh). I'm in San Jose, CA and can drive within a couple hours to pick it up, otherwise I'll need it shipped. PM me! TIA.

SOLD  FJ40/FJ60 - 2F 2-groove or 3-groove harmonic balancer, alternator bracket (upper passenger side)

Hey there, I need a 2-groove or 3-groove OE harmonic balancer from a 2F in good condition (mainly, no groove worn from the front crank seal). I'll need it shipped to San Jose, CA...if you have one, please PM me and we can talk. Also need the alternator bracket that mounts to the passenger top...

FJ60 water pump (oil cooler port) on 1974 FJ40 F.5 engine - which harmonic balancer do I need?

Hey guys, just getting this project wrapped up and ran into an issue: looks like when the current single-groove harmonic balancer on my F.5 is fully seated, it won't line up with the FJ60 water pump and pulley. I see several options for a later harmonic balancer...can anybody help me narrow...

Is there a difference between the fuel pump lobes on 2F vs. F.5 cam?

WELL. I feel like an idiot: I was only pushing the arm by hand as far as the slop that the spring takes up to ensure positive contact. I pushed harder and heard a loud squelch as the diaphragm moved. Haha! Thanks to all who replied, apologies for wasting time.

Is there a difference between the fuel pump lobes on 2F vs. F.5 cam?

Yeah both my old and new pumps have two lines. Problem is it seems to sit off the block - no spacer - with the cam lobe engaging the arm fully. I can install it when the cam lobe is pointing away from the arm, but I don't want to risk bending the arm when it comes back around.

Is there a difference between the fuel pump lobes on 2F vs. F.5 cam?

I contacted City Racer and they verified that cams are the same from F through 2F. I'll try to fit again today and post up a pic.
