F, 2F, 3F and 3FE rear main seal, oil pan gasket and clutch installation instructions

I just noticed that you say to torque the rear main cap bolts to 58ftlb. The repair manual is have says 76-94 ft lbs. I took mine to 90ftlbs, do you think I am ok with this?

Thoughts on 2f cylinder wear, please

I have not ran the engine yet. However, I had a oil pressure guage on it while I turned the engine over for the compression test, and I was getting 55psi, cold engine/oil obviously.

Thoughts on 2f cylinder wear, please

Thanks for the input, everyone!! I showed the pics to a friend of mine that builds quite a few engines, and he also said to run it!

Thoughts on 2f cylinder wear, please

These were compression #s on cold engine, re torqued head, adjusted valves, and some oil added to the cylinders (engine has been sitting a few years, so thought that would be a good idea) The cylinders in the 120's were the ones that are leaking out of the valves.

Thoughts on 2f cylinder wear, please

I purchased this 2f used, out of a '79 FJ40, never got to hear it run. I have the head pulled, since 2 cylinders were low on compression, leak down test showed its probably valves. What do you all think about the wear on these cylinder walls though? Motor has been rebuilt, pistons are stamped...

    3-speed transmission swap to a 4-speed?

Thanks again for all the info!! I am also doing new OEM motor mounts. I may just have to swing the whole combo between the rails, and see where it sits. Mine may be a case where some massaging with a hammer will be enough to clear. I also did brand new body mounts, so the body should be sitting...

    3-speed transmission swap to a 4-speed?

That's what the floor support looks like on my '67. Looks fairly flat, do you think it will need trimming down more, in order to clear the range selector lever?

    3-speed transmission swap to a 4-speed?

Thank you so much for the thorough info!! My FJ is a '67. I was curious about the tube being in the way, so looks like I should make some modifications there. I may just make it removable, but at the same time, rotate it back some. I will also plan on modifying the support tube on the...

    3-speed transmission swap to a 4-speed?

Were you able to install your trans/tcase combo into the truck, with the engine still in the truck? My engine is currently out of the FJ, so I can do it either way, but it's going to be crazy heavy with everything all bolted together.

    4 speed rebuild/normal wear?

Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for!!

    4 speed rebuild/normal wear?

I would love to build a puller to install the output shaft bearing, that resembles the Toyota SST. I am having troubles envisioning how it works however, anyone have detailed photos of that tool?

    4 speed rebuild/normal wear?

Thought I would share pics of the puller I purchased for $30, from home depot. I made the two attachments that fit in the snap ring grooves out off scrap steel and nuts I had laying around, and with the various length extensions in the kit, it worked great!!

    4 speed rebuild/normal wear?

I actually have a brand new output shaft to install. Mine isn't worn terribly bad, but didn't want the gear to be clunking on there.

    4 speed rebuild/normal wear?

I was curious about those teeth as well. I'm thinking that is how they come though, as there are no signs that anything broke off of that gear (jagged or shiny metal, etc). And I did not find any particles or pieces in the case, oil looked good, and a fairly small amount of shavings on the magnet.
