I ended up selling mine to a guy who used the drivetrain to resurrect a super clean, but rolling chassis, old FJ55. He's driving it to this day, as far as I know.
The bars were either for kids riding in the back, or to prevent cargo from hitting the glass, and I've never gotten a solid...
@CruiserTrash
It was a cool old rig, and I wish it was in better condition, but there was rust all over it. Floor pans were shot, exterior had holes everywhere, but most damning was that the frame was beyond repair. I've since replaced it with an FJ62 and an HJ60, though, so I've got some cool...
Not sure about the other things he listed, but the gate bars/glass protectors were on my USDM FJ60. So potentially all of those things were available in the US market.
They will, and they inspired me to put some more use to the Nikon N2020 he convinced me to buy for $15. Now to get it out on some trails for cooler pictures.
I just picked up another 60 series (it's an itch that never seems to go away, no matter if you already have one, I've found), a 1987 HJ60, LHD imported from Nicaragua. Super clean all around, runs decent, stops and turns decently. The biggest issues is a really bad oil leak from the timing cover...
I picked one up. 1987 HJ60, LHD imported from Nicaragua. Super clean all around, runs decent, stops and turns decently. The biggest issues is a really bad oil leak from the timing cover gasket, which I've ordered a replacement for, and most of the gauges don't work. The only one that works, that...
I got her out off road, which was a lot of fun! I think that the suspension and tires will need to happen before I do the transmission swap, though. It was a lot of fun, even as is, though, so I'm pretty happy about it.
I've worked with Cruiser Outfitters in the past, and can definitely say I agree with your assessment of them. In all reality, the first real mod is going to be that 5 speed, lol.
I'm trying to put the money together to do that this winter, actually. I can tell that the 3FE is a decent engine just with what little driving I've done, but the A440 trans kills it.
OME (or equivalent) 2.5" lift and 33x10.5r15s is the eventual plan. I put the 31s on because I needed new tires, and happened to have these ones waiting to go on a different project. That rig threw a rod, though, so I figured the tires could get me around in the drivable rig until I had money...
After having spent lots of time and more money than I should have on initially cheap, but later expensive FJ60s that turned out to have garbage frames, I decided to put enough money down to get a 60 series that was actually decent. The result of that is my newest addition, a 1988 FJ62 that is in...
I've done just a little bit of work on the FJ60. I replaced the rear axle tube, which has solved my brake fluid leak issue, and I've replaced the tires. I went with 285/75r16 General Grabber X3s. I've had the X3s on several rigs, and really liked how they've performed, and their price tag is...
