It's about time this turbo was sent in for an overhaul :)
I always use a basic bleed with a tee without the ball and spring system (which can cause the flutter). Using a tee with restricted boost source and bleeding off after the restrictor using a remote valve works great. You don't get the...
Where's this one from? Nice intake for a 1HZ. Not keen on top mount without a fan but flow wise looks promising.
I used to bag out top mounts but recently a 1993 Auto HDJ81 running the new Bad Boy at 26psi with a "series 2" HPD top mount (with a working fan) and 3" exhaust, no other mods at all...
Nice choice on 15B-F. I've never worked on one but for a 4cyl it's easy the best choice (with turbo anyway). Gold I reckon!
A customer with a 15B-FT dropped his turbo off for a high flow s year ago (long term project). This is easily s very reliable medium-high output engine.
All the best with it.
Hi y'all!
Yesterday we did a 1992/11 auto HDJ81 on 35" A/T tyres. 153kW (205hp) at wheels and below 3500rpm never under 22:1 AFRs!! Boost 25-26psi. These are 77kW (103hp) standard. The AFRs are logged on the dyno so I'll probably post it in a separate thread.
Why is this a great result...
Sub 750. Short term 800.
Your limited to a temp safe 300nm or thereabouts with that turbo around 2000rpm, so the drivers wish frequently exceeds this limit on normal driving.
Changing to a 58020 housing (ie std 1HD-T) will make this a nice cheap turbo, what Ive suggested for years for those who can't afford more.
The larger housing means that when people tune for power in high rpms, they usually do a poor job at the fueling in sub 2500rpm range and run far too rich...
It's definately a stock 7MGTE turbo. The factory wastegate mounting lug spacing doesn't line up with the 1HDT turbo boost actuator, hence the welds.
It's got no business at 26psi. The Exhaust housing isn't suited to diesels which explains why the engine didn't do its usual long mileage.
Cheers
Hi Rusty, ok first this is built by me but not a GTurbo, second the turbo is toast.
My guess is, since it's one I built probably 4-5 years ago, it's not ok at more than 20psi and went out of balance on overspeed or it's a lube issue and the clearances of the bearing increased to the point that...
14psi and Billett wheel you will be safe as houses.
A customer emergency ordered a GX yesterday after his genuine brand new turbo blew to pieces. He told me to say he ran 13psi for 60,000kms and 16psi for the last 10,000kms.
The compressor wheel pieces are no bigger than 1/4 inch. He sent me...
I could grab one and photo it - pretty sure it's brand new. It is identical to the inconel wheel in design, just ceramic. Very low interia (for it's design and size).
I might build the original turbo I mentioned when I do all the backpressure logs just for kicks now that my dyno is finally...
Looks nice. The Ceramic turbine is terrific compared to the std inconel wheel. It's exactly what I used back in 2006 with an upgraded comp wheel. Still runs 27psi, done 100,000kms so far but I think leaking oil now.
I have a few of these turbines somewhere.
The good = fast spool, the bad =...
Ok 292whp with more tuning and torque curve improved, comes on hard at 2100rpm giving it a very wide power band.
I'm going to change design a bit and should pickup some power I the same fuel.
Yes for sure, I am confident that we will have over 250rwkw within 12 months. But, it's not easy. I've just upgraded the V8 turbo parts (again) and that should release another 10-15 putting a max ~ 225rwkw. A few other mods and larger injectors and I'm pretty sure we are there :-)
