    Remove Power Steering Pulley

Ian, the power-steering pullers seem to use a lip that doesn't exist on mine. They wouldn't work. So I did the thing. I used a ball-joint fork and just hammered on the backside until it popped off. It worked okay. It turns out that my pump is buggered six ways from Sunday. The bearings got...

    Remove Power Steering Pulley

I have play in the shaft of my 1980 FJ40 Power steering pump (S. American Model). I am attempting to rebuild it, but I am stuck at step one and cannot get the pulley off. It is keyed. It doesn't seem to have the normal flange you hook the pulley removal tool around like a normal press fit one...

Okay, tons of good suggestions here. I will have my hands full this weekend, but I will report back. Many Thanks!

    Crashing over potholes

I'm guess I am better off getting new springs that trying to remove that add-a-leaf? It looks like a tremendous pita.

    Crashing over potholes

The frame was reinforced. Let's be clear here, this was a Venezuelan Farm truck and it worked for a living for the last ~30 years. ;) At some point, it made its way to the city and someone through a little love at it, but it was very low-dollar love. There is no driveshaft vibration (though...

Here is the shock. It says "Hecho en Venezuela" so identifying it (and its characteristics) may be a challenge.Rear Shock by FJAustin posted Jun 24, 2018 at 4:24 PM

    Crashing over potholes

--- Well, you would be right about having never driven a 40 before. Always loved them, but never made the jump. And yes, its a pretty good deal. To be clear, this one has its issues (some rust, some bondo, repaired frame) but I am looking for a drivers, not a show car so it works for me...

    Crashing over potholes

Hmm, I have read about switching to to softer springs. A lot of people also use Monroe shocks from what I have read. Are those softer?

    Crashing over potholes

Its hard to explain, almost like its bottoming out. Have you ever been an over-loaded pickup that hit a speedbump? Like that. It just way too much force for such a small bump.

    Crashing over potholes

So I recently purchased this: No Reserve: 1980 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 And I drove it back 560 miles yesterday. There are a lot of things I want to address with it, but one of the first is the fact that it "crashes" in the rear end over smaller road bump and potholes. I am at a bit of a loss...
