but had difficulty finding headers for a reasonable price...
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but does anyone have a recommendation for the 4.0L v6? I have an 05 that needs the cat and tailpipe replaced. Was hoping to replace the headers too if I can get some for a reasonable price.
Get your $5 volt meter, turn the fog lights on, and see if you got power to the connector where the bulb goes to. If so, try reseating the bulb. I've had issues with mine disconnecting until I realized I had to push it in farther to hear another click.
Toyota dealer lacked confidence? Usually they jump at the opportunity to take your money  I think I'm due to replace my wheel hub assemblies, that could be something peripheral you check. Did you get an alignment on it?
Unsure about the torque converter being an issue (could try checking Toyota-4Runner.org - https://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/22622-lock-up-torque-converter.html for troubleshooting). Could be the throttle position sensor going out, is it throwing any codes?

Thank you all for your awesome advice!
I'm going to get my tie rod and ball joints replaced since it's about time for that. In the future I might get new uppers to accommodate the 2.5 inch lift up front. I gathered this will be ideal for my daily driver setup, and won't require $5k investment.
Background: A couple years ago I installed bilstein 5100 struts and OME springs on the rear--plus 270/70/17 tires.
I've got squeaks on my front suspension coming front multiple spots, but primarily the steering tie rod. I got an estimate to replace both front ball joints and tie rods for about...
That's basically what I did. The bilstein shocks are very similar. I did OME springs too. The 265/70/17s will rub like the last 2 degrees on the wheel, so it's not that big of an issue but something to be aware of.
