Thanks for your suggestion,
I apologize for mislabeling the points, I am a novice mechanic unfamiliar with the world of points and carbuerated systems. One of the reasons I bought this truck was to learn how to work on it.
That may be a good idea to start with. The only reason why I ruled out...
I am 99% sure I have the 49 state version. Here is a picture of the base of the carb. I dont see that port you are talking about. When you say ported vacuum do you mean I need this box thing?
Thanks for everyone's help. What is the advantage of using a Vacuum Advance Distributor vs supplying vacuum to the retard diaphram?
Are these Toyota Vacuum Advance Distributors more reliable than an all electric ignition?
Here are the pictures. The Open Distributor, the Underside of the Rotor, The points and the top of the rotor. After the last time I ran the truck I opened the dizzy and checked the rotor, I wiped some soot off the rotor. So it had more build up. /

It was maybe a foot deep but there are splashes up to the side of the engine about the height of the distributor cap. I am pretty sure I put the cap back on properly.
The air filter is dry.
Hello, I did a dumb thing this weekend while taking my 1974 FJ40 off road. I drove it through a fairly deep puddle and it stalled out. It struggled to start back up but eventually did and now it is always struggling to start up and it stutters at low RPM. I took a look at the distributor cap and...
