I am 99% sure I have the 49 state version. Here is a picture of the base of the carb. I dont see that port you are talking about. When you say ported vacuum do you mean I need this box thing?

Thanks for everyone's help. What is the advantage of using a Vacuum Advance Distributor vs supplying vacuum to the retard diaphram? Are these Toyota Vacuum Advance Distributors more reliable than an all electric ignition?

Which distributor did you use? Was it from a 40 or a 60?

What do you mean by the fuel bowl? Is that part of the carb?

It was maybe a foot deep but there are splashes up to the side of the engine about the height of the distributor cap. I am pretty sure I put the cap back on properly. The air filter is dry.
