I just switched out my electric fan for the direct drive fan - it immediately solved my overheating issue… I went with brass so that it’s easier to fix, and was concerned about the bimetal corrosion… running a 2F.

Checking back in - this did work out - running much cooler with the direct drive fan and oem water pump. I did also replace the radiator with the 4 core CSF. The 77 OEM shroud I had is ok - I might see about picking up an earlier shroud, but I'm no longer overheating! Now to chase down this...

Comparing online this does look like the oem - it would most likely have been re-cored I imagine

I don't know that it is the original - this was a farm truck for most of its life. My brother thinks that he re-cored it in early 2000's. Either way, I'll see about taking it to a shop. No leaks that I have noticed!

Ok - making the switch for sure based on all these comments. Plan to use my water pump w/ oil cooler without the fan clutch - direct drive fan. This spacer and this fan to bolt up to the water pump I ordered. I'll start there and see if I still overheat. Then look to swap out the radiator.

Ah ok I understand. So I would just simply add the spacer and bolt the fan - I see what you mean regarding all the correct pieces. Looks like there are a lot of variations of the fan. That should put the fan inside the stock shroud correctly? I assume that is why we need the spacer. Great...
