Hey new to the scene here

Thought this thread could use a photo update so I took some photos of what I am currently working with. I know they are not pretty, but fantastic machines are not built in a few days but over the course of time. Rear 20170619 by BubbaFJ40 posted Jun 19, 2017 at 10:29 PM PS20170619 by BubbaFJ40...

Got the hood removed this morning/afternoon. Only had to break about half of the bolts off. Good thing they sell replacement sets ;)

Hey new to the scene here

I had no idea that the factory 2F was that heavy! Maybe I wont need coilovers after all...I may just stick a 4bt in there on all of the upgraded stock stuff. I think the wider axle is definitely something i want to do if it will bolt up. Otherwise if I'm gonna fab the axle it might make more...

Hey new to the scene here

Judging from the photos I'll need new jump seats then if I decide to go with a 43 over the 40 correct? How much longer is the wheelbase of a 43 over a 40 before shifting it? I sincerely appreciate the insight and assistance!

    Wanted to introduce myself

Hello all, I am fairly new to mud and the cruiser scene. I have a 1978 FJ40 that is nowhere near road worthy that I will be rebuilding. Feel free to check out my thread in 40/55 section, the link is below. I live about a half-hour outside of the 'burgh and look forward to meeting y'all! Hey new...

Hey new to the scene here

I have never been inside or even seen another FJ40 in person let alone a 43 so that would be a cool and interesting concept. My only concern with an aluminum tub is 1 the price, and 2 how I would bond it to the cowl and other pieces made of steel, with the steel tub I just planned to weld...

Hey new to the scene here

I am not sure if its going to be thrown away or if I will repair it. Still pretty up in the air on it. Thanks for the heads up, I am going to need to find alot of photos of a complete 1978 so that I may figure out what I have and what is still missing and what may be laying in one of the boxes...

Hey new to the scene here

Any idea on if the driveline behind the engine could hold up to the power of a built up Cummins? My original plan was a Cummins 4BT with an NV manual Transmission and Atlas Transfer Case. Never made it to planning out tire size, or axle gearing. I was always pretty confident that I wanted to go...

Hey new to the scene here

You wouldn't happen to be able to assist me in deciphering what model year mine is would you? The VIN plate says Nov. 1977

Hey new to the scene here

I'm not denying that! I'm going to star the tear down procedure this weekend to see what I am working with under the destroyed remnants of the tub. I will begin the process of looking for a tub once I figure out which year FJ I have as well as once I determine the condition of everything that is...

Hey new to the scene here

Hey everyone, resurrecting an old thread here as I just moved the FJ40 into my garage/home shop. Wanted to post some photos and get some feedback from you. I am not so sure of the date of my cruiser as it was built in November of 1977 and could be a 78 model year. I feel like this is important...
