    Harbor Freight Winches

Update. So, the winch has been great for a couple years now. It has seen a lot of use and always performed great, if a little slow. Unfortunately, I just found out that I broke the mount. On my last time out I ripped the steering box off of the frame. 42" tires are just too much for the...

Saginaw Questions - 40 series turn radius

It sounds like this has already been covered, but I had a horrible turning radius on my Saginaw equipped FJ40 when I bought it. The problem was the Pittman arm being shorter than the steering arms and not being properly clocked. I installed a Pittman arm from a Jeep Wagoneer that matched the...

Teraflex Shackles - Any one using these?

When I first saw those revolver shackles years ago I thought they were a great idea for a wheeling rig to get more droop and I planned on putting them on my FJ. As luck would have it, I was poor and couldn't afford them for a while. Before I could I heard a lot of stories from others about...

New Poster, not new to FJ40's

Welcome from Reno, NV. For mirrors, I have the type that mount to the windshield hinge and they don't stay adjusted if you open the door too far.

    brake bleed after leak

I can't say for sure that it NEEDS to be bled, but I would bleed them just to be safe. It probably didn't get air in the system, but it is definitely possible.

Best Brake Master Cylinder for '72?

I installed a 14 bolt rear axle with disc brakes. It was a real pain to get the rear brakes bled, but I finally got it done. Brakes are working great with the '91 master cylinder and 4 wheel disc.

    Harbor Freight Winches

I bought the ZXR 12000 lb winch and have used it a few times now. It's kinda slow, but got the job done pulling my buddies YJ out of all the messes he got into. I'm planning on running a trail this weekend that I've always had to winch the last waterfall. I'll probably see then how well it...

Had My Rock Crawler FJ for over 10 years now.

I just finished installing a 14 bolt rear end and pushed the axle back an inch or so. I had the drive shaft retubed to about 3" longer. I'll need to trim up the rear of the wheel wells to clear the tires.

The windshield wipers keeping up is not likely on mine either. There aren't any yet. Another box of parts. lol I went wheeling last Sunday in the snow. Still had no heater or windows. I put 37" hummer tires on it because the iroks were wearing unevenly on the highway. BIG mistake! They...

I Think I'll be happier going that route then. I just figured the aftermarket one would be easier, but I really think the lost space will annoy me.

    Door Choices for my '72?

Very nice work! I'm definitely not up to building something like that any time soon. I'm hoping the full soft doors will do for the winter. For half doors I'll just go with the soft doors for now. What I mostly want out of the full hard doors is a window that will roll down.

    Door Choices for my '72?

Yes, I'd be very interested. I probably won't get hard doors until at least summer, but I'm pretty sure I'll get them eventually. That could work too. What kind of half doors are those?

    Front shocks lower bracket

I had a lot of backyard fab like that on mine when I got it. There's still more on there than I'd like to admit. Hard 'wheeling breaks off the one's that aren't done well though. lol

    Door Choices for my '72?

I'm buying a newer Bestop and full soft doors from igotta40. I may still get hard doors at some point, but these will do for now. I'm pretty sure it would spend more time with the soft doors on it anyway. A heater is next on the list.

Had My Rock Crawler FJ for over 10 years now.

Well, I still haven't gotten around to finding the box of parts to check out the stock heater. I did look at the passenger side leg room and realized that the aftermarket box heater will take up some leg room and floor space. One passenger has already said she wouldn't like that, and I often...
