From the guys who cut open their original canisters to replace the charcoal, they reported that they found rust in the ports. I wonder if the charcoal is fine but maybe brushing out the ports would clear the obstructing corrosion. I kept my old one just in case since the parts are NLA.
FYI the...
Wells 4B1090
They only had 1 in stock when I purchased so it might be OOS.
They had the LC one too. Also wells but it was like 650. The tundra one fits but doesn't bolt in. But the mount bracket is the same. Slides in and is pretty solid even without being bolted in
Just reboot the CV. I've had to do it a couple times. You can get an inner cv boot kit for under 40 bucks iirc. You need some tools to do it yourself. Most shops don't want to reboot. They want to replace, and aftermarket axles are worse than junk.
As a 100 owner, you probably need to know...
I removed most of my clunk with new driver side CV and new hub flanges. They absolutely wear and with 260k, likely needs it as most folks don't maintenance their bearings often enough if at all. But I still have a little clunk when going from R to D. could be worn axle gears or even worn...
Does it squeak with suspension movement? Body mount would be very short squeaks and you could likely cause it without even driving by pushing on the car when it's parked. If you are heavy enough to compress the suspension, see if you can cause it to squeak by getting the suspension moving. If...
Can anyone recommend a shop that is trustworthy who can regear my 100 series here in Colorado? Slee is in Denver but I looked on their website and didn't see regearing as a service.
Expansion valves in front and rear, evaps in front and rear, the hard lines on the passenger side wheel well tend to get damaged from road grime. If you have corrosion, you could have a corroded line near any of the hard line brackets that go to the rear a/c.
Big things that typically need replacing after 20 years:
Bushings in all suspension parts
Steering rack
Brake booster
Charcoal canister
Valve cover gaskets
CV Axleshafts, especially outer stubs
Don't replace if they don't need it but these things may need it in the next 5 years.
Edit to add...
I had already replaced the vcv on mine but didn't resolve the issue. Just today replaced the charcoal canister so we'll see if my over pressure situation improves. Saw somewhere on mud that one guy replaces the fuel pressure regulator on the rail and the fuel damper. That will be next thing...
Well I got my charcoal canister. Opened it up to a fun surprise!
It's actually the Toyota/ denso CC!
This was the tundra canister which i bought because it will fit and its cheaper than the LC one. The only real difference is the mounting hole locations. I thought I'd need to cut off the...
I haven't seen much attention to these parts. I wonder what your experience is with these and what are the symptoms of them failing?
Wondering if a fuel pressure regulator or damper could be causing the engine to run too lean, causing engine to run hot and possibly heating the fuel that...
Also, you can spray wd40 on the spring cups to temporarily lubricate them, to see if that is the source. I have a slight squeek but mine is a rear shock. Not sure an easy way to fix that. Don't want to replace as they are expensive aftermarket and not bad otherwise.
