    For Sale FZJ80 Albany NY

1997 Land Cruiser, 40th anniversary edition, green. No lockers. Clean title. For sale in Albany, NY area. I'd love to keep the truck, but I just don't have the time to keep up with the maintenance anymore. It's approaching 251k miles. Oil changed religiously every 3k miles. Work I've done in...

Do NOT Expect a Koyo 1918 From CARid

I am going through the same thing with CARiD right now. They wont even acknowledge that they sent me the wrong item. Instead they are telling me that TYC is the distributor and that this is what I ordered even though I ordered a Koyorad. The metal edge of the radiator itself is even imprinted...

Starter struggling after valve seal replacement

The new plugs were something like 0.7mm instead of the 0.8mm they're supposed to be. That little bit sure made a big difference with the misfiring.

Starter struggling after valve seal replacement

Turns out that the misfiring was caused by an obvious problem. The kind of problem that I like after this whole project: one I can observe and fix. The spark plug gaps were too small, so I fixed that and the misfiring issue is now resolved. The truck now sounds correct during cranking, starts...

Starter struggling after valve seal replacement

Okay, today was spent following trouble shooting flow charts. I verified that the fuel pump works, both at high and low speed. Verified more resistances than I can count of wires from the ECU. Verified that the spark plugs are indeed in the correct order and that the fuel injector wiring does...

Starter struggling after valve seal replacement

I turned the truck off as soon as I heard the noise. After doing a check to make sure nothing was visibly wrong I tried to to restart it. That is when the starter began to sound different (as recorded in my video) and the truck would not restart.

Starter struggling after valve seal replacement

I checked the MAF sensor and reseated the connector. The clamp I used is a little small for the end near the MAF sensor so it looks loose but is actually pretty tight. There was one wire by the EGR pipe that had melted-through insulation and that is one reason why I did this work. That wire is...

Starter struggling after valve seal replacement

I went ahead and took everything back apart to verify that there was nothing trapped under the valve cover. Everything looked good so I reassembled everything, checked the spark plug wire order and installed new spark plugs. I also took out the starter motor to make sure it was actuating...

Starter struggling after valve seal replacement

Thanks for all the great ideas so far! I did take off a small ground cable near the heater valve where the main wiring harness is, but I put that back the way it was. I used a multimeter to verify that one of the valve cover bolts to the battery is 0.3 ohms, does that seem high? I didn't need...

Starter struggling after valve seal replacement

Funny you should mention this, I replaced the starter plunger and contacts about a month before this repair. That fixed the issue where it click once but wouldn't always turn over when you turned the key to start on the first try.

Starter struggling after valve seal replacement

I will double check, but since they are all different lengths and I did not disconnect them from the distributer I am pretty confident that they are in the correct order.

George_tlc is correct I replaced the valve cover gasket not the valve seals.
