Fuel Pump Block-Off Plate - Permanent Removal of Mechanical Fuel Pump on 2F

Didn't get to tackle the fuel pump delete as thought above - got called to duty. On it today! About the old fuel lines and capping those. There is only one I'm concerned about - it's the "return" fuel line that feeds back into the fuel tank (serves to return un-needed fuel back to the fuel...

Fuel Pump Block-Off Plate - Permanent Removal of Mechanical Fuel Pump on 2F

Thanks - appreciate it. So what about the rod that rides on the cam (ie powers the mechanical pump) - should I leave it in its place in the block, or remove it? Seems like removing it would leave a pretty good size channel for oil to flow from the engine block to the block-off plate, but if it...

Fuel Pump Block-Off Plate - Permanent Removal of Mechanical Fuel Pump on 2F

Hey everyone - Got a couple questions about best practices for permanent removal of the mechanical fuel pump on my 2F. The Weber carb replacement with the electric fuel pump was done on my FJ40 before I owned it. They just left the old mechanical pump in place and capped the In/out gas lines to...

79 FJ40 Ignition Stuck in Accessory Mode

Turns out it was a corroded ground-side battery cable. Here's the tricky part of it: The corrosion wasn't visible at all until I peeled the black plastic/rubber wire cover back from the connector about 1/2". At initial glance the cable looked normal. No corrosion at all on the battery...

79 FJ40 Ignition Stuck in Accessory Mode

Thank you everyone! I’m gonna take the lazy man’s approach and get the car trailer, my neighbor is on his way over with it right now. Would still appreciate any other ideas about what might’ve caused this how to fix it.

79 FJ40 Ignition Stuck in Accessory Mode

Push starting it won't work because the ignition switch is stuck in accessory mode (ie not full on). Our neighbor has a car trailer but I'd sure love to fix it and drive it home. If there's something easy to try, I'd like to try that first. FWIW I know the people who own the gas station, so...

79 FJ40 Ignition Stuck in Accessory Mode

I've been around the forum for quite a while, but haven't posted until now. Question - The ignition switch on my 79 FJ40 appears to be stuck in the accessory mode (the HVAC fan blows, etc.) and will not turn to the off position, or advance to the starting position - regardless of the key...

    Name of this little cover

Can someone identify the name of this small cover - see video - near the starter. The flywheel is visible through it. It was missing when I acquired this 79 FJ40 and I'd like to replace it, just don't know how to search for it. Link below - Thanks everyone. Brad

    Oil leak from where?

Hey There Wifes80, Just curious how your oil leak pursuit came out? I'm getting myself ready to chase down an oil leak on my 79 FJ40. Done all the normal stuff already, tightening the oil pan and all that. Then I drive it, get it warm for an hour or two and I can't tell where the leak is...
