    FJ62 Camper Build

Great setup - love seeing people fab up custom interiors that fit their needs rather than just paying $$$ for an off-the-shelf product Gonna get bloody hot and sticky up north in Nov/Dec, but those curtains look like they’ll keep things pretty cool! Should definitely incorporate some sort of...

Hmm. Given that I have a snorkel, it seems like water coming in from the bottom during a water crossing might be a bigger risk than water ending up in the air box from the top? (Not that I plan to do too many water crossings, extended or otherwise)

Always fun fixing little things the PO has done! (I suspect there’s going to be quite a bit of that on the cards once I finally get around to pulling the dash and playing around with the electronics)

While I was cleaning that catch chamber I found this silicone mess and a little soft plastic tab I’m assuming it’s a primitive ‘valve’ to allow water to drain? Is this silicone job the PO did a good ‘fix’ or should I clean it off?

Waiting on some parts to get shipped over from Japan, so I figure while I'm waiting for things to put on the car, why not take some more things off the car. There's a bit of rust on the air filter cover so I figured I'd give it a clean and a new coat of paint. Rust is worse on the inside...

Totally get why you guys put Cummins or LS in your rigs given how few Toyota diesel engines made it over there. LS swaps are pretty popular here too as they were in quite a few Holdens so parts are everywhere. Thankfully Australia has access to OEM and aftermarket parts for the 12HT, so it’s...

Oh, that’s the laundry sink, I think I’d be sleeping in the 60 if I washed up diesel sludge in the kitchen sink! As well as the full-floater rear it’s also got the H55F transmission, 4.11 gearing, and ARB rear airlocker Any OEM parts people would suggest stockpiling while they’re still out...

Good to know. Lots of useful general info on here, but the Yanks don’t tend to be too much help when it comes to the diesels 😉

The sedimenter/water filter mounted on the frame rail is apparently often overlooked when servicing, and I’ve heard they can rust out completely. Rather than just draining it I wanted to take it off completely and make sure it was working properly (including the float sensor) Plenty of people...

First major thing I’ve done was a rebuild of the rear brakes. Have never worked on drum brakes before, but I figured you have to start somewhere! The backing plates were a bit rough, so I cleaned them up, treated the rust, and re-painted Cleaned up the existing hardware where I could...

G’day y’all! Finally got around to signing up after a long period of lurking. Hopefully I can give a tiny bit back to the community after all I’ve learnt from everyone. I grew up in rural South Australia, where Toyota is king, and learnt to drive in a 1991 4Runner (HiLux Surf), so I’ve always...
