    Parting Out So. Cal.

a couple of years ago I installed a 2H and h55l 5 speed transmission in an 80 series. It was quite a conversion but worked very well and I was quite happy with it untill this year when I went to renew registration and was informed that my import paperwork was screwed up and invalid. I fought...

Welcome to my 1HDT rebuild nightmare.

I'm so anal about my thrust bearing that when i'm at a long light I throw the truck out of gear and release the clutch. When I sold my old 3b with 650,000 km. it still had .009 end play in the crank.

Welcome to my 1HDT rebuild nightmare.

if your clutch releases as soon as you crack the pedal it's set-up way too tight and that will end-load the crank. Check your clutch pedal. when its all the way back the piston should have a little play. it should feel loose. At the end of the master piston there is a spring with a small valve...

Welcome to my 1HDT rebuild nightmare.

Had that happen to me but on a gas pick-up. The clutch was rebuilt before I got the truck and it was adjusted badly so the hydraulic slave cylinder kept pressure on the clutch throw-out lever. That end-loaded the crank shaft until the thrust bearing went. Before I knew it I'd lost oil pressure...

    oil pan questions

thanks big red for that advice. I got concerned because a mechanic told me that the paint flakes get ground-up passing through the oil pump and can end up in the bearings but then perhaps he's not aware that the 2H has a full flow oil filter rather than a by-pass filter. Do you have any insight...

    oil pan questions

Hi from Mexico. Got a 80 series with a 2H installed. Did the swap myself and it went well but didn't upgrade my springs for the extra weight and the bump stops in the springs got beat out. Bottom line, tie rod banged against the oil pan and cracked it. The cracks no problem to weld but what...

    oil pan man

can anyone tell me how important the coating on the inside of the oil pan is. my oilpan got a dent in it resulting from smack by the tie rod. I can braze the crack but the coating on the inside has flaked off. Is there a repair material for this.

    oil pan man

didn't have any leaks in my oil pan but when I got it off I noticed there are some bare spots up near the gasket(smallish, maybe 1/2 in. square) Where the paint has been worn off probably by scraping gaskets. Don't know how critical it is to recoat them and with what? I'm concerned about more of...
