Issues Upgrading Front Brakes to GX460

Good luck Matsui, I’m sure now there won’t be issues! I’ll update once I drive it more, but I don’t expect issues now. The previous owner of my gx470 used Powerstop rotors and pads, and I thought he knew what he was doing with “upgrades”, so that’s basically why I originally went with that...

Issues Upgrading Front Brakes to GX460

Well, issue solved. Got everything together, bled and and test drove, works great. It ended up being that the rotor wasn’t fully seated after all - I just had the lugs on hand tight holding the rotor in place, which I thought was enough, but tightening a bit more popped them into place fully...

Issues Upgrading Front Brakes to GX460

Yeah I did have 2 lugs holding the rotor tight. I took the caliper off, made sure the rotor is seated fully, and put it back in, same thing. That would be awesome if you’re able to, I’m hesitant to do anything else for now - if I put a tire on and try out the brakes, I don’t think I’ll be able...

Issues Upgrading Front Brakes to GX460

Thanks for your quick response Rednexus. I’m a little confused what you’re saying about the caliper being able to move on the slide pins though. These calipers are a different design than anything I’ve worked on before, so maybe I’m just not understanding them correctly. They don’t have the...

..and I would assume that the seam of the caliper would sit directly in the middle of the rotor, and that’s not the case either. I’m measuring from the outside of the rotor to the seam in the caliper in these pics:

Issues Upgrading Front Brakes to GX460

New problem!!! I bought the 2010 gx460 calipers and rotors, OEM from a local dealer, the part numbers above in this thread, and Akebono ACT976 pads. I put the first one on, and it doesn’t seem right at all to me. I don’t want to proceed without getting some thoughts. The outer side of the...

Issues Upgrading Front Brakes to GX460

Matsui - it looks like we’re dealing with this at the same time. I just bought the same oem calipers and rotors with the part numbers above, and I bought Akebono pads. From my research I didn’t see the different part numbers that you linked to - I looked on the actual Akebono website, and it...

Issues Upgrading Front Brakes to GX460

Just to update - I took the Powerstops off and put my old stuff back on temporarily until I buy OEMs. I’m in the process of returning the Powerstops. I didn’t end up comparing with digital calipers though, but nothing noticeable visually. Thanks for the oem part numbers, that’s helpful...

Issues Upgrading Front Brakes to GX460

Yeah that’s my best guess too, that something is defective or just machined with less accurate tolerances or something, Im guessing the calipers. Since I bought the calipers and rotors/pads separate, they both came with slide pins and the pad retainer clips, so when I pulled everything off and...

Issues Upgrading Front Brakes to GX460

Yes, the slide pins are lubed. I appreciate your info regarding Powerstop quality, thanks for sharing your bad experience, that’s unfortunate you had to deal with that and makes me wish I did more research. I admittedly didn’t do as much research as I normally do before choosing to go with...

Issues Upgrading Front Brakes to GX460

I recently found out my stock front brake calipers were sticking and needing to be replaced. I saw that this is pretty common, and saw that a pretty common upgrade is to use 2010-2013 gx460 calipers, rotors and pads, they’re a direct replacement, just a little beefier. I went with the Powerstop...

CV Axle Repair/Replacement Opinions - New OEMs vs. CVJ Moderate lift

Last month I contacted CVJ axles and he sent me a picture of an OEM axle and said to make sure that the inner joint looks exactly like the picture. Here’s the picture he sent me:

CV Axle Repair/Replacement Opinions - New OEMs vs. CVJ Moderate lift

Hi, I just found out last night while doing an oil change that one of my inner cv boots is cracked, and has spit out a lot of cv grease. It's a 2005 GX470 with 150k miles. At 140k it had a lift done. That explains the boot issue I'm dealing with.. To keep it brief, I'm debating between buying...

    CV Boot Clamp Removal Question

Hey, @notgoodenough, I I just looked at my receipt for McMaster and it was $31.47 with shipping and tax (that's just for the small bands, I didn't do the big ones).. It looks like I might possibly end up using most of the clamps, so I don't think I'll have enough extra to send to you - I...

    CV Boot Clamp Removal Question

Thanks again for everybody's feedback, thanks 2001LC for all the pics, very helpful! I cut the old clamps off and put the new McMaster worm drive clamps on, and here are my thoughts after all of this.. It was an extremely simple job, I just over-analyzed it.. Like others said, just pry the...
