    Removing The Transfer Case (TC)

If you don’t have a lift, I used the HB small transmission lift, a 3ton low profile HB Daytona lift, and a power built jack stand/bottle jack combo. I think those three items suited me really well. I would add to that in any future attempt a rachet strap to keep the tcase secure on the HB...

    Removing The Transfer Case (TC)

Maybe it’s possible to remove it from that end, but I didn’t do it that way as the worked that needed to be done on my tcase necessitated the replacement of all the seals and required me to tear it down. Here is an image of the interior. You’ll notice that there is no inner retaining ridge, so...

Correct, I think that’s why the HB freight jack was nice when I did this as it moved smoothly back as I wriggled it apart. Would be harder to do that with a floor jack unless you oriented inline and not from the side, or did the set-up that others have done with the built bracket that better...

I had it definitely under for support, put some towels on it, had very mild “pressure”. But nearly none as you don’t want it to create lift. It’s just needed to rest there. Then strap it down. I recommend more straps though in case it tries to roll on you like mine did.

My only concern would be the wedge breaking off and now you have to fish it out

I would consider a hardwood wedge maybe. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DGTGZ8MK?tag=ihco-20

Be careful with brass though as it is still harder than aluminum and can gouge it - but definitely better than steel

No, I had lowered it about 2in.

    Removing The Transfer Case (TC)

Interesting, I didn’t have to do anything for my removal except for leaving the transmissions low at around 2 in and supported on a jack stand. Then used the small HF transmission lift to support the tcase. Proceeded then to knock it with the mallet and 2x4 to loosen and wriggle things free...

    Removing The Transfer Case (TC)

I’m with Malleus, I’m thinking it’s alignment and maybe the way your jacks are supporting things that is hanging things up . I think the jack I used really helped to keep things aligned and “stable” and allowed me to wheel it back smoothly. Maybe see if someone nearby has one of the jacks I had...

Becuase if not that for sure will keep things from coming apart.

I was rereading this. Did you slide the linkage arm off of the connection after you pulled the pin? I’m assuming so, just trying to cross that off the obvious list.

💯 agree. Most of the problems I have when working on a car revolve around exhaustion and frustration. I night resting and reevaluating things the next day does wonders. If you can get some videos up on here for other to see we might be able to assess the problem. Have any hardwood laying around...

I would suggest taking your phone, getting some good light, and videoing the upper cavity. Might reveal if there is something binding.

Not that I’m aware. The shaft is captured and slides into the input for the Tcase. I feel like something up top is encumbering it from moving. Did you lower the transmission and all about 2in or so? I’m assuming so if you got the bolts off.
