took awhile but got the trussed 8.2 housing from Toyota. The housing comes bare so you have to also order the mounting studs, nuts and washers, third member gasket, axle seals, and sway bar mounts. I was going to post part numbers but found the nuts and bolts i was given were the wrong size.
I found mine off car part locally, used the carrier assembly search parameter. When i went to check it out it was in a whole assembly that had a bent housing. Worked out good was able to check that it had the 14mm nut on the third member
I was able to get the axle swapped in today with the help of a friend. Was definitely plug and play job went pretty smooth, maneuvering the axle out/was a little tricky but overall job was straightforward. Was able to do it without disconnecting the brake lines.
I have an aftermarket sway bar...
I would be interested to know how that kit works out it is definitely cheaper than sourcing from toyota. With plugs, gasket and studs it cost $160 for me.
I picked up the studs and rest of the fasteners from Toyota today. Talked to the parts dept and got an update on the housing. It shipped out so it should be here soon. Guess it has to get delivered to the big California warehouse first then it will ship to Colorado. Appears that US Toyota doesnt...
I still need to sort the sway bar out. I also found out the housing assembly doesnt come with the studs and nuts to mount the third member or the drain and fill plugs. I got the part numbers from toyota for them
Pictures of the grenaded rear third member. After blowing it up we removed the rear driveshaft and drove it out of the trail in FWD. Got a tow back to town and then got the ring gear removed from the rear diff. Drove six hours home in FWD without issues.

Took the GX470 to Moab for a shakedown run on the new 35” tires. Overall was very pleased with how the gx performed. Clearance and navigating over obstacles was a lot better. Front end had a good amount or rubbing that i will need to clearance some more. Ended up grenading the stock 8” rear...
