I know i seen a pic of them axles somewhere on one of these sites before. I remember that exact pic. Might of been on NC4x4.com. I am also on there. Get this thing going.

That alternator looks like a stock Toyota unit, has it been rewound to get 200A? If so who did it? I've got a 175A aftermarket on my 3FE but I've never been real happy with the way it mounts and it's starting to act a little flakey...

Progress: 4/12/06

Got the frame off the trailer and set up on blocks so I could cut off all the non-sense parts (i.e. EVERYTHING BUT THE MOTOR MOUNTS AND CAB MOUNTS)

New Frame (2wd 94 model x-cab)

clean and pretty straight(I have to fix the pass side frame horn)

After 30 min(I learned that cinder blocks don't make good jack stands)

About another hour and I should have all the crap off of it. I hope I can get around to it tomorrow.

Progress Report: 4/13/06
I am getting ready to dump out some BIG $$$ for my suspension ends, I am hoping to start fabbing up my links and mounts next week :D
I finished cutting off all the non-sense items, here is the pile of scrap metal I have now...

I know "The pics look the same" but they aren't. Look closely, now all I got to do is break out the grinder :mad2: I hate grinding

Next up: time for the grinder and start measuring!
Thanks for looking and subscribing...I hope I don't disappoint

I thought you learned a lesson earlier about cinder blocks........

Cool project! Keep us posted.

Do you have the geometry figured out on the multi-link setup? I know of a least a few other guys who have had a measure of success with that setup. Lots of trail and error, but worth it when it finally comes together. Nice pics.

Alright, here we are again. I am back after a weekend out of town. I purchased parts to build the upper half of my rear suspension last Thursday(I am hoping for them to arrive tomorrow or Tuesday). I also did some measuring, I found out that the coil spring pads are in a perfect position for my frame! :D

Tonight I moved away from the frame and onto the rear axle(I'm going to try to do all the grinding at one time).

I broke out the torch and started with the driverside upper link bracket. I won't be needing either upper link bracket on my rear suspension. I will have 1 tower in the center of the axle.

I am going to have to pull the 3rd to finish cutting and cleaning here
Picture008.jpg

After I finished cutting the upper link brackets off, I had my way with the shock mounts. The factory location is WAY to low for me...I would have destroyed shock after shock if I would have left them in this position.

Final product(at least until I pull the 3rd)

Well, I started off pulling the e-locker 3rd out of the housing( I am getting ready to start welding on the housing and I have really bad luck with welding around electronics)

MAN ARE THESE SHAFTS BIG!
Picture027.jpg

I'm glad I decided to do a tear down on this axle...I found out that the brake shoe was busted
Picture024.jpg

Is there a special tool to remove this piece? I couldn't figure out how to get it apart so I could remove the backing plate.
Picture025.jpg

I finally broke down and started grinding the slag off the rear axle and off the frame. Here is the semi-finished product...

Frame Progress:
I will finish grinding the rest of the crap off tomorrow night. I had to shoot some black paint over the bare metal to keep it from rusting.

Parts didn't arrive today, I did find a shop semi locally that might have a good deal on my "johnny joints" and hopefully some 4.7's!

Finally finished grinding the frame. I shot some black paint on it to keep it from rusting up.

I have a bunch of Toyota parts around the house, including this rear frame section from a 2nd gen 4runner. The 2nd gen 'runners had coils in the rear(this one had a 4" Trailmaster lift with coils). I needed to find the upper bucket for the rear coils...put 2 and 2 together and what do you get? Me with a torch cutting the buckets off the old frame.
Picture034.jpg

Picture035.jpg

Picture036.jpg

I was happy to see that the bucket is a 2 part unit...the lower half(the on I needed) is tack welded in 8 places onto frame....not for long though,
Picture037.jpg

Axle time...
A buddy of mine(Grant) lent a hand in helping me measure and make a template for the upper tower to attach the "johnny joint"
Here is what we came up with. And yes it is centered.

Stay tuned, its gonna get good soon!

I got my RE's yesterday, Bad news is that they were not the one's I needed. So I sent them back and the guy gave me my $$$ back...very cool.
I built(started fabbing) up the tower for my upper 3-link(sorry no pics tonight, try to get them up tomorrow) I am hoping to finish it up tomorrow. Also, I am in hopes of coming into some $$$ soon, which means MORE PARTS  I am going to order all my ends(Currie or RE? opinions...) Heading to the 'yard tomorrow also(gonna go and get some Aerostar coils and whatever else I can find that I like)
Does anyone else on here have a Hypertherm Plasma Cutter? I want to rant about mine for a minute...I went to Sunox(our local welding/cutting equipment outfit) to get some new consumables(for those who don't know-the parts inside the plasma cutters gun that wear out). When I left there I had 4 SMALL packages in my hand(12 pieces total) It cost me $107! Thats insane!
