Scorcher's resto got me thinking about adding an interior dome light in the rear cargo area (since I will be replacing headliner soon)

Does anyone have an interior dome light mount from a Parts Pig they will part with?

You mean from something like this ?

Sure why not...most of the parts (ones that were left when I happened upon this woeful soul) are in a connex box. But the mount in question should be beneath the headliner since I recall removing the light. It maybe a few weeks before I am back in contact with my beloved parts pig...but when I'm there I'll take the sawsall out and extract that for ya.

I was thinking about this idea some more.

I took a look inside my headline and see that there is a bow for the headliner that runs just behind that rear roof support.

What do you all think? Do you think you can still mount a rear light and get the headliner bow to work?

TIA for all perspective on this...

I've done the same on my '76 I just haven't installed my spare light yet. Maybe next week. Headliner went in fine though.

So you installed the light mount and then installed a new headliner?

No interference on the bows then?

Thanks Charles!

What I did is use the roof supports from both bodies we used to restore my piggy and I used the one with the light mount in the rear. If I'm not mistaken most '55's have three roof supports and my truck now has double that number, more or less evenly spaced around the existing supports which I did not move.. I do not have any exact measurements on where I welded the supports in though. I know I did not weld any to an existing roof support. The light bracket came over with the roof support it was originally attached to and the whole thing went in. I seem to recall paying attention to where exactly the headliner bows were located when I installed the additional supports but you cannot tell where they are when looking at the headliner so I guess I did good!

Ah, you added roof supports!

I think my '74 has two roof supports currently.

I don't have a entire additional roof support to add, just the light mount. Hmm...

I'll have to go through your build thread to see if you show pictures of the additional supports.

Thanks!

PS - Your letter is going out today. I had to figure out how much postage to go US to Canada.

Since we had the rusty roof we removed the supports from the rusty roof and added those as additional supports to the new roof.

I found mention of it in your build thread, but not many photos - I only skimmed page 1.

Do you have pics of the placement of the additional supports, or pics of where you mounted the light? I would love to see how the headliner fits over the back light!

I found this post as well in your POTM:

You can see the two original roof beams on the roof picture, one directly behind the "B" pillar (Cut "B") with the dome light mount and one at about the "C" pillar location. I removed those from the old roof and installed the one with the dome light mount between the "C" pillar and the rear and I think I put the second one between the original two. I also ran a wire to the rear most beam from the dome light so I could install a second dome light for the cargo area if I want to.

Anyone have another extra dome light? I am needing one for a rear on my truck too.

I could use a dome light as well. At least the lens.

When I figure out which style I need, I'll give you a ring. Thanks!

Eric!
there should be a dome light lens/cover in the center console. I took it off because the light won't turn on because the plastic on the toggle switch is broken.
