Well,
I was supposed to be in Moab yesterday, but the wife's job ran out on Friday. No budget for Moab:(
Stayed home figuring to take the 40 back apart and figure why the newly installed Orion pops out of 4 hi...I believe case machingin has misaligned the detents in the shift rails with where the gears and shifter are suppoed to be...
So, I went to the body shop today to see how much it was gonna take to replace the drivers/passenger floors, top of the door frames, left rear quarter panel, and straighten the tailgate out...Ed, my body guy, says, "I thought you were gone to Utah to beat up on rocks." Yeah, me too I said. "Waht are you doing this week then?" I dunno, watching grass grow and cutting it I guess..."Well, the plasma cutter and sawzall are over there, tig rig is over on that side, 18 guage sheet is on the rack, and when you get panels cut to size, we'll make a die and roll some matching ribs in like what's on the old rusty parts. Get to work." So, I'm body guy in training this week. Got the floors and dorr top arches cut out, some replacement panels sorta trimmed to size, and ran out of 18 guage. I'll buy a 4x8 sheet on the way in tomorrow morning. Should have the floors in and door arches on tomorrow, then off to play a band job til 2am...back to the shop on Thursday at 6am to remove the smashed rear quarter, amke a new one, tig it in, and take apart the tailgate and straighten and rebuild it Friday...and adjust all four doors.
That'll teach me to take a week off. I'm gonna need a week off after my week off;)

Junky; sorry about the lack of pix. Camera's still at the sop. I'll post some monday or tuesday, kinda all at once. I'm not as cool as buck...

Allan, I'm in agreement with Brett here. Pics of body work, I want some motivation for some sheet metal please!!!! :D

Thanks, Matt

Dead Thread? Not quite

Sorry this took so long. No pics of the gaping hole where the floors were, but here's the new ones. I left the seat mounts about 50% intact....rebuilt the outers where the seats actually bolt up, but left the inside where the jack and stuff goes...A little hard to see the beads rolled into the floor, but they're there;)

Replacement panel

Here's the panel, roughed out of bits from MudMonster44, thanks mate;)
"X" marks where the reflector goes. The stud on the back of it broke. I think I can tack weld a new threaded section on, but if anyone has one extra...

This took a whole freakin day

Smashed quarter smashed the tailgate, which had been worked real hard anyways. One hinge was broken. Welding it together melted the bushes. Had to make a new pin for the hinge too. Inside the gate was suuu-mashed, the outside was wavvy and wobbly beyond belief. Black spots are heat and shrink marks. It's nice and straight, square, and tight now, and it fit purrrrrfect the first time.

sand, sand, sand, sand, sand, and maybe sand some more beofre I paint.

I'm thinking twotone spring green/seafoam under, white over:)

More as it comes-chef

Allan,

What are the floors out of or did you make them? Looks real nice!

When you say, " upper door sills at all four doors, upper a pillar repair", curious as to where your repair is? Any pics? Just wondering if it has problems similiar to mine?

Thanks, Matt

Floors I made out of 20 guage. Made a die to roll proper beads into them.

Upper door sills suffer from rot from years of Cali heat and cool dripping condensation down into them and rotting them. Roff and drip rail are fine.
A-pillars, same deal.
No pics of that yet.
