IF you could afford it, then I'd buy it, and restore it properly...very, very rare!

Shipping would be $1700 plus fees

Disclaimer: That's what I was quoted a few weeks ago. I can get nayone in contact with my broker. happy to give any importing advice

I will bid. Anyone have an idea on year model? (hard looking at pics I know)
Its close to the snowy mountains, where toyota aust originated, so could well be one of the early ones.

If any other mudders are keen on bidding, its better to be up front and open, silly all to bid against each other. Im bidding for its restoration and preservation, and im a purist, however no serious work can start till at least christmas. If anyone on here wants it desperatly, let me know and ill stay out of the bidding war for you.

From the chassis number, it's a 1960 model year. As Johnny mentioned, it's one of the Thiess Bros. imports (first Toyota representatives in Oz), originally brought in for the big hydroelectric project in the Snowies. These things have history and are uber-rare these days. Went to Australia as cab-chassis models, many were then converted into various configurations by local coach builders or tray manufacturers. Looks pretty complete, I'd say that's a keeper if you have the money to restore it.

Sounds like a great plan Dave!! From one purist to another, time is not the issue, getting it done correctly is.

For more info you need to join us over in the FJ25 section, (FJ25 Owners Group - IH8MUD Forums) there are more from OZ who are in the same position you want to be in, with their own old FJ25's and FJ28's (https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj25-owners-group/272740-aussie-fj28.html) !!!!

The only deal is...that you need to post lots of pics when you get it, and start working on it ;)

Dave,I just recently saw this auction and was thinking exactly the same thing as you and have been trying to work out a way of getting it to QLD Still has a long way to go with the auction though will see what happens with it what a gem!!!!!!!!!!

I have bid, aand see how it goes. Sold my 75 fj45 today, so im a bit cashed up. was going to use the funds towards buying a HJ47, so hopefully people dont bid on the 25 and I can get both!!
Hi Shamus, yeh qld is a long way. there is a 47 pretty cheap up there atm I want so I know what you mean. freight is a killer.
'As the crow flies' this car is only about 80klms away, but to get there by any passable road with car trailer its about 200klms away, still not too far, just a major pita!

my wife said no fj, Yeh ill have to make the trip to the 25 forum. Being a purist is a good thing. not a big fan of sticking a v8 etc. Idea would be to do this up to a stock show quality standard, and let the local toyota dealer park it in the showroom. it wont be a daily driver, so drum brakes, no seat belts and original type tyres and paint will be in order. I restore old holden cars (a popular aussie built car) and keep them as they looked rolling of the production line. Original paint, trim, mechanicals etc. I just sold one for 11 grand, it was as original as possible, and cost me bugger all to keep it that way, however my mate spent about 30grand on one mongreling everything, V8, modified trim and paint, crap looking modern wheels etc, and cant get anyone keen at $10000, the cops hassle him, and gets less appreciation at shows that an original one with heaps of patina.

if i do win it, ill need ideas on an tray to make for it, something that it would have had in 1960.

Dave, how's your bidding going?I have found someone to transport it to QLD for me:bounce:But it gives me a $2500 handicap before I start bidding:bang: and I think this may hot up towards the end of the auction. With that in mind I think I can safely say I am out of the race before I even enter!I really do need to focus on the other resoration project I have on the go at the moment my hj47 ute which I hope to restore to as close to factory as possible,I have been collecting oem parts for quite some time now which has left me little money for other projects.Must stop looking on e-bay it is getting painfull.
Cheers Shamus

nah, i missed out by a couple of hundred. bidding went mad in the last 5 mins! hopefully the winning bidder looks after it and does it justice. (it sold more then some HJ47's have recently, so someone must have been keen)
Im going to spend my $$ on a HJ45 on the weekend, I cant wait!
Got any pics of that 47 shamuslan?

Dave

Are you serious??? It sold for only $1500...that's only what, $1100 US, and you guys were out bid??? If you ask me, that is really not much for something so rare :frown:

Hope it went to a good home.

I am not interested in RHD, but had it been a lefty, that thing would most likely be on it's way here.
