Does it run? Those leafs look pretty new. You know you're going to have to post more pics

Wow...I just love it!

So...now the big question...what is the future of this 28?

I think it was for sale unless Phil already bought it. I'm also thinking he better hurry or I may buy it myself. Heck he may be south of the border by now and miss out on this one. I really think we need this on our side of big pond:hhmm:

That doesn't look like a chevy six but an early F probably a F105 that had a second oil filler cap added to the top of the valve cover and the air cleaner/ carb changed. The muffler is also too far forward which also would drop the price by a bunch:rolleyes: So how much? It should really end up in the southwest (AZ) where it will last for ever:D

How about a few picture of the back since that was done in OZ and not by Toyota.

I had heard that Phil was on this, but wasn't sure.

:hhmm: so...is his trip 'south of the border' just a decoy, and he's really off to OZ...hmmm :hhmm:

Looking at the engine now I'm not sure. That may be a chevy head. Bolted to a F block? That oil fill tube with the vent straight down is how all FJ25s came into the US. If it's a Toyota F block it should be stamped on the block. Something looks funny on the front axle too. Those don't look like Toyota wheels. Aldo are those the stock drive plates. Doesn't look like a six bolt pattern:hhmm: This really needs to go to someone whose have the parts to bring this back to original. I think I know someone who has a extra transmission/transfer case plus an set of axles and wheels:hhmm:

I think the owner is correct that its an old "stovebolt" 6 cyl engine...the fuel filter mounted ontop of the fuel pump ( http://www.speedprint.com/deves50/img/deveshowto/pcvinstall/pcv2lg.jpg) and intake exhaust ( 1951 Chevrolet Six Cylinder Engines ) is very stovebolt upon doing some research that is

i thought the valve cover mayhave been toyota modified...but...when looking into the chevy more ...they did have a rounded valve cover like the toyota...most pics i see that are stovebolt are more square...and a few square.

i think early stovebolt like early 50's round and later 56+ square?

I bet they fit right on a toyota engine :)

Rear anti-sway bar, very cool. I vote cheby motor..note air cleaner bracket welded to L fender, hacked splash plate for exhaust. There was a picture of an F 105 head in one of cruiser-guy's threads, I don't have time to look for it, off with the noon tide. Sucks being an International Helicopter Man of Mystery!

PM sent:)

So fuel pump is from a chevy? Two of mine had that fuel pump. The oil filler looks the same too. I;m just confused about the second oil fill cap on the valve cover. If it is a chevy I think it was installed after the Toyota F failed. Everthing I heard the 28s were send with a power on a chassis and cowl to OZ:hhmm: I do have a very early F block that is lower than anything else I've seen here in the US. Jim could chime in on this but pretty sure that The F engine came in all FJ2Xs models never a Chevy six.

Does anybody else see this as looking like a Toyota front and cowl/windshield then Rover from there back. I think it looks cool, I like it.

i second that the motor was replaced with the chevy...early parts were hard to come by back then...and i would imagine that if it failed early in its life...they were hard pressed to find a toyota replacement.

parts were hard for us customers in 58...i can imagine that in OZ it would have been egually or harder to get parts.

Anymore thoughts on the front axle? I don't see the drive plates as having six bolts. You can also see in the tranny/transfer picture there is flange with no driveline attached going to the front axle.

Cammo -

Take a number and post in the 2x Counting Thread. FJ-28 count too! :)

That is a very nice find. It's definately a 216 or 235 GM motor not the Toyota motor. Very interesting though, it probably bolts right up to the 25 tranny, would like to know how it was done.

No fair. I said the front looks like a Toyota. I was thinking more along the lines of the angle of the top and the rib. The shape of the doors. The back looks straighter than any early land cruiser. Front to back sliding door windows. I thought that maybe there were following more of the early rovers then land cruiserswhen they finished these in OZ. But I'm probably wrong. Now you can post some more pictures of those nice old rovers to prove how wrong I am:idea:

The front badges are about the same shape:rolleyes:
