Got lucky and helped a friend out at the same time...and finally got an early FJ40 again. :D

I had a 64 for awhile and loved it but had to sell when I got divorced....as well as selling my 77 BJ40! :crybaby: A friend in the Rising Sun found a cool 62 factory soft top a few years ago, and it has been in her garage ever since. She had a car accident and was buying something new, and was going to sell her 40...I was interested but was too busy to take a look....then saw that she was TRADING it in to the dealer! NOOOO!!! Then she could not find the title, which was my cue to step in and pay cash. :) I do not have it in my garage yet, picking up this week, but here are some pics....starts right up, but she says the steering wheel moved but the wheels do not...

plan for now is to just get her running and driving and baseline...then decide if I want to do a stock frame-off....but would want to find another 40 to drive in the meantime....the kids will be mad if we don't have a 40 to tool around in!

I remember that rig...been a while since any posted. Sorry to hear of the reasons she had to let it go, but good for you to have saved it.

What do you mean by "stock frame off"?

Congrats

Edit: the reason I am asking is because some people say "resto" but then do an engine swap, disc brakes, 4" lift, ...etc, which is in fact a great build, but not a restoration.

I would keep this '62 as original as possible, but then again, I am a purist

remember? did she post here too?

I mean decide if I want to do a frame-off and try to keep it stock....or do some mods....

I remember her posting when she went to pick it up, and asked questions about it...some discussion about it being a '63 or '62, but then she stopped posting.

Not a 100% sure, but I do think it was here in the 25 section...maybe 2 or 3 years ago???

I would go stock

Hi, NICE RIG! Id keep it stock. Those blue tarps always rip up, got to be something better. Good luck. Mike

I do think I will be keeping it completely stock...makes more sense to find a fun 40 to tool around in and make "safer" to have fun with the kiddos...this is too rare to modify. Will take more pics when I pick it up this week, and start making a list of everything I need. A soft top and doors would be a good start. :)

 that sounds like a good plan ...

Keep it stock timm! I'm glad the dealer didn't want it!

my biggest question is what to do about a soft top and doors...want to look OEM but not cost more than the whole truck!! :)

:lol:That's a good one. We would have to know what you paid for it first but a stock looking top isn't going to be cheap for one of these. Two replacement canvas tops have been made that I know of and both those had the doors and bows to begin with. Badger in VT made one, very costly and OCDBeetle the other. I believe OCD has deposit already to make a couple more for someone but after that who knows. I have a Kayline top on one of mine but hoping to get a couple canvas tops for the OEM doors and bows I have. Needless to say I'm not holding my breath. If I have a sample top to work with could probably get some made here in AZ since I have a tub and bows to work with but that still isn't going to help you. Cruiser_Nerd made a later FJ40 soft top work and custom bent doors to work. There is a thread somewhere in the 25 section on it. Won't have the OEM look but would get a soft top and doors.
