How to time your 1HZ/1HD-T Fuel Pump Video

Stumbled across this jem.
How to time a VE Fuel pump aka the same pump on a 1hz/1hd-t and plenty of other engines.

Generic ones like this from ebay will work well.

They are not as easy to handle, and for some you need to remove an injector line nut and the oil filter, but they indicate just fine.

I don't care about taking off the oil filter.

Here is a question, When you undo the central bolt does fuel come spewing out?

The adapter in your link is not super useful on 1HZ and 1HD-T pumps (I actually bought it and could not use it). To make it easy you would need the real SST.

Fuel does not come spewing out of the central bolt hole, just a trickle that stops quickly.

Yes.
If I have to I will order it.
I bought the valve tool already and there is only a handful of sst that I will probably need.

Same here, I think I'll eventually end up with the Toyota SST to time the pump.

I just use a dial indicator on a magnetic base,mount the base to the oil filter or other metal object on the block and run the tip of the dial indicator into the timing plug hole,some dials may need a extention to reach the pump plunger,they can be found in different lengths.Work like a hot damn,very simple and easy.
I was shown this by Raj down at Fred Holmes Fuel Injection here in Richmond...

ForealBoreal,the little adapter you bought should work really well ,here is a couple of videos that should give you a idea on how it works with VE style pump on a VW,you might need a little extension for the dial indicator,you can get different lengths or a certain indicator to get the rod length correct.

Hold off on looking for a extension,I looked again at the kit you bought,the tips on most dial indicators unscrew,the little rod they give you looks like it should screw into the dial indicator,you might have to adjust its length depending on brand of indicator.

I found my dads dial indicator and its all going to work.
there is a magnetic base that I can use to make this happen.
When the turbo gets put on I'll be doing this. Woohoo!

Hey Foreal - The tech in the video zeroes the dial gauge by rotating the crank counter-clockwise. Did anyone else catch this?

I thought the crank was only supposed to be turned clockwise. WTH?

I just placed an order for the SST as I didn't have luck with my other tools.
I'll report back in a few weeks when this happens.
I'll watch the vid after dinner to see if I catch this.
