Hello fellas .. give me some help here ..

appreciated !

Hello neighbor,

Nice diagram, now what's the question?

Rudi

OK, I've read your other thread and your question is: What do I see here?

Here is the same diagram but now a bit more easy to read and understand.

still kinda confused ..

Now I now that GM regulators have L circuit designed to have reduced V directed to it of any where from 1.5V to 11V ( never more than that or will burn ) so I'm looking for that V in my harness .. or way to provide that to activate the unit . .

by the diagram you post ( thanks ! ) after key is ON that close the circuit and allows B voltage going to the charge lamp at dash .. and if I got it right since E port on Alt going to the VR it's grounded the light will go on .. which means alt it's not charging maybe coz it's not running ( engine off ) or it's damaged .. ( despite running it's running or not )

What I don't get it's how the V Relay play in the game ..

V relay is only for switching on the charge lamp.
When the key in "on" but the engine not running the lamp is between + from the key and - (ground) via the V relay. So the lamp is "on".
When the engine is running and the alt is charging, there is a voltage from the N terminal that activates the V relay. The V relays goes to the down position and now the lamp is between + from the key and + from the battery. In other words the lamp is "off". When the alt is not charging for one or some reason (there is no current flow) there is no voltage at the N terminal so the V relay goes off (to ground) and the lamp comes on.

The V Regulator in your diagram it's in fact inside the V Regulator box ( external regulator in my setup ) ?

got how it works .. and would need to find that L wire here .. ( VR Box plug )

Wonder if diodes reduce ( resistance ) V ..? and where the charge lamp ( and bulb check relay ) take V seen here in the big picture ..

appreciate time you are taking to explain me this ..

appreciate time you are taking to explain me this ..

From your diagram:
B=Battery White
N=Null White/Blue
E=Earth/Ground White/Black
L=Lamp (Charge) Yellow/White
IGN=Ignition Black/Yellow
F=field White/Green

I don't know if these colors match the connector you're showing. Maybe you have the wrong diagram.

A diode is not a resistor. A diode is a rectifier (to make DC from AC) or a one way port/valve (the current can go only one way). The typical voltage drop over a diode is 0.6Volt. So two in series makes 1.2V and so on. Diodes come in different Voltage and Amp values. Depending on what your plan is you need to pick the right one.

very appreciate your time Rudi ..

The diagram maybe correct but it's for early HJ60 model ( don't have the late diagram which probably will make the things easier ) so that's why color won't gonna match ..

What I'm getting it's I would like to identify the light wire in my VR plug not in the Alt plug ..

Reason why I ask about Diodes it's coz between the L port on the VR and the 5A Fuse in the Fuse Box ( cabin ) there is a Diode ..

I assume the idea of this Diode by your explanation it's actually make V flow from the CHG Lamp ( diagram ) to the VR L wire port ..

What a Condenser do ..? ( right of VR in the diagram posted above )

Is this what you're looking for?
L is bottom center.

The [STRIKE]condenser[/STRIKE] capacitor is a noise filter for old school AM reception. Those old VR's had the nasty habit to induct some noise on the wiring system.

I'll heve to check on that diode but I'm pretty sure it's there for blocking the other way around.

ok .. despite everything read, learn and tried .. nothing works ..

With or without VR just got full battery V in all ignition switched ports at the VR plug .. the only test I miss ( realize that right now while I'm typing ) is try all the possible combinations with the old alternator connected and grounded ( as it does trough the body to the engine bracket )

despite that missing test .. which are my options to reduce V on ignition switched battery voltage in order to make new circuit to provide required activation signal to the unit ..

I'm not familiar with GM alternators, only "traditional" alternators.
Here is how the electric boys do the super fast basic "charge", "low charge" and "no charge" test.
1. Disconnect the Voltage Regulator
2. Place a jumper between IGN and F terminal on the harness side connector.
3. Hook up a Volt Meter on your battery.
4. Make sure that all accessories are "off".
5. Start engine, don't play with the pedal and let it run at idle.
6. Read the Volt Meter. Should be between 12V and 12.6V.
7. SLOWLY / CAREFULLY rev up the rpms. The Voltage should go up 13, 14, 15 Volt. Slow when the battery is not full, fast when the battery is full.
Stop here, don't rev up higher, the Voltage can go up to 20V and higher.
The Alternator is OK!

Hope this helps.

Tagged for interest. I just got the hydroboost to install and I would like to get rid of the vacuum pump now and go to a bigger alt. I am in the same boat with an external regulator.

Hope you figure it all out.

well I've been reading A LOT ! :eek: about this and for the kind of Alt I'm running ( which I dunno why needs between 1.5V and 11V on the L port to be activated ) looks like I'm going to end with 2000ohm resistor ..

What I'm trying to locate it's kind of one that can be used in out intended application .. I mean hold on temp, dust, water etc ..

I think you're looking for this:

Just Google for "GM alternator wiring diagram" and select pictures.
