Started last week on our way to holidays...

Was working fine and on cruise control, slowed down for a coffee stop and she stalled wtf!

Played around and figured she would still get us to the airport two hours away. We made the airport with some stalling and she only stalls when starting off or letting off the skinny pedal.

Changed the filter this morning in Toronto with one I purchased in Canmore, replaced some clamps but still stalls.

We have a four hour drive ahead of us and I feel she'll make it, if you have any ideas please post...

Purchased an inline pump just in case.

yikes if its the injector pump!
do you run a fuel lubricant every tank?
how many kms on your rig?

air

probably air getting to into your fuel system somewhere. check your water seperator and all the lines from the fuel tank to the pump. how is your fuel cap? is it venting? probably something simple.

The little O-ring at the very bottom of the water separator / filter where the drain cock is can be a bugger sometimes.

Also, the primer pumps on top of the filter assembly have been known to break down over time and bleed air into the system.

Maybe the fuel cut solenoid has a bad contact.

Well we made it home in good time averaging 100kph, mind you not with that smooth power band I am used to.

Sure do miss that... just touch the key and start up, compared to thrash the skinny pedal and crank the snot out of her.
I am hoping it is an air issue, have sourced some clear fuel line and additional gear clamps, just happen to have a new water seperator unit which will be changed.

Has anyone had luck with the check valve at the fuel filter assembly?

Changed fuel lines to and from filter to clear hose just for the visual aspect...fuel is getting to the pump.
Changed out the fuel filter water seperator assembly
Remove the filter assembly and tested the check valve...it works with tiny leakage!

Really problem is somewhere else, she is hard to start ,throttle needs almost constant attention when city driving, is tolerable on the highway but lacks gusto.

She will occasionaly throttle up on her own to almost 3000rpm when parked and 2000rpm when driving.

Saga continues...

is your fuel tank venting properly? probably not that but just trying to provide simple things to start with.

Looks like it is narrowed down to fuel metering...

Something inside is sticking, therefore the high rpm to low rpm's with stalling point to the govener and fuel metering fighting for dominance. Must say I was slightly disappointed when all the new hoses, clamps, filter and fuel/water seperator assembly failed to bring my baby back to normal.

Broke down and dropped her off at Henniger Diesel a local shop which will help for I will be out of town for a couple of days.

Thanks for the help and I will report back...

well i hope its not your injector pump:(
If it is add the inline pump you bought too to help it out in the future.
i wish you luck!

I would be worried about it free revving to 3000rpm by itself.

My IP failed and the engine free revved to something like 6000RPM before I could stall the engine.

at 6000rpm, it sounded like pistons would go into orbit any second

Took it all apart today...
ACSD caused the problem...sheared bolt metal filings everywhere!

Need a new cam, will be shipped today from Edmonton. The rest of the parts were salvagable or found at the shop.

Had the bypass on my PM list, so sad that I did not get to it earlier.
BTW injectors are in great shape.

Will post the pics later
