2. the belhousing is the same on an h55f and a a440f \.
As far as your question goes, I do not think the 1hz will bolt up to the a440f. If I remember right, the people who have done 1hz swaps have either had to change input shafts on their gas h55f's or have gotten new h55f's mated to the diesel. If the 2f/3f H55f will not work, I do not think the a440f will unless you change the input shaft. Can you do this with an automatic transmission?
I'm almost positive a 1-2ht would work with your a440f, but its the older (rarer) diesel and not the 1hz that you want. But it is turbo'd from the factory.
Greg, are you thinking about a 1hz swap? That is my plan LONG down the road. It would be pretty sweet. I love my 3fe, but I feel like I'm single-handedly causing global warming driving my cruiser around.

The auto does not have an input shaft in the same way a manual does. The torque convertor is the interface so you need a flex plate for the 1HZ and a torque convertor that will fit between that and the trans as well as a bellhousing for the 440 that will fit to the 1HZ
The second thing you mention is a 12HT and it did come mated to an A440.
Being that 1. the gearing is the same on the a442f and the a440f and 2. the belhousing is the same on an h55f and a a440f I think a 1HZ-T may bolt up to my a440f and work just fine. The tranny mounts could stay in the same spot, moving the motor mounts only.
Anyone see a reason that wouldn't work?
I have an a440f transmission from Rodney in Austrailia. If the valve body needed mods after the swap I could always send it back to him.
Whoever converted my 80 to diesel (from gas) put the motor mounts a little further back than stock. It creates problems-- changing the clutch was a bummer as the top of the motor hits the firewall when you tilt it down. Also the starter hits a part of the tranny hump and the bellhousing wants to hit a different part of the tranny hump.
I'd probably locate the motor correctly, then put the tranny crossmember wherever it needs to go. I wish the PO had done that.

Motor mounts will need to change - based on a 60 - hz swap. They may be slightly different for a 62. I'd start with the engine placement/cooling fan/shroud/level/firewall clearances. Bob
I was ! a fan of Rodney ... how he recomend a Chevy over the great 1HZ .. !!!!![]()
Any idea what belhousing is used?
