Posting my 1988 JDM BJ71 Land Cruiser. Short wheelbase, factory 13BT 3.5L turbo diesel. I’ve been daily driving it, but moving in a different direction vehicle-wise.

Good candidate for someone looking to get into a diesel 70-series at a lower entry point. Not perfect, but honest truck that’s been serving as my daily.

Overview
- 13BT 3.5L turbo diesel
- 5-speed manual RHD
- Factory 4x4 – working properly
- Odometer: ~345,000 km (215,000 miles)
- Imported from Japan
- Currently registered/insured and driven regularly
- New batteries
- Fresh oil change
- New belts
- Recently inspected by an import-specific mechanic familiar with these trucks
- Frame is solid (no structural rust issues)
- Starts, runs, drives reliably as a daily
- Drivetrain feels strong overall
- Harder-to-find BJ71 platform
Known Issues (being fully transparent)
- Transmission: 2nd and 3rd gear synchros are worn. Still drivable if you’re mindful, but will need attention down the road. Reflected in price.
- Starting quirk: Takes two minutes to start. Mechanic diagnosed this as a soft injector seal on one injector. Estimated fix: ~$30–$50 in parts + ~3 hours labour.
- Cosmetic rust: Present as expected for age (body panels), but again the frame is solid.
