message from Ranger Greg:

"It's called the Palms to Pines tour in the San Jacinto Mountains.

However, a 4x4 excursion will be launched in the San Bernardino Mountains on January 8, 2011! This will be a moderate four wheel drive tour with plenty of fun to offer to all that attend! Meeting at Big Bear Discovery Center at 0830 and departing at 0900. Be prepared for the challenges of driving through deep snow making our way from Big Bear Lake to Johnson Valley!

Together, we'll negotiate, articulate and maneuver our vehicles over some intermediate obstacles that exist deep within some remote canyons. Perhaps for a New Years treat, we can enjoy a hot lunch prepared and served to all that attend out in the great outdoors!

So, if you're interested, please come equipped and ready for action! Winter clothing, full tank of gas, camera, gloves (for some projects along the way), camp chairs, binoculars, food and plenty of drinking water.

If you'd like to RSVP, that's fine. Otherwise, I'll see you at Big Bear Discovery Center on January 8th!

Happy New Year!!!!!!

Greg. "

The 330 is out for service for a while... :whoops:

Greg Hoffman? He's the head of the SBNF and a very nice guy. Road in my truck as a group of TLCA and Socal 80's guys a few years ago were 'supposed' to adopt 3N08. We dropped the ball and never did anything. He, however, was super nice and a person absolutely in love with his job.

Wish I had my truck. This sounds like fun!

You can ride with me, I'm plentty of room... I need a video/photo man!!!

Tempted, but looking at the date again, it's Saturday, not Sunday and Saturday is likely the only weekend in January that I'm actually in town, much less the country to play golf! I'll unfortunately pass.

Have fun tho!

We tried to make it but showed up about 20 minutes after the group left and no one at the Discovery Center. We ended up finding our way down to Yucca Valley but never caught up with anyone.

Cool picks! Thanks for sharing.

Well, Buttercup went straight, more or less, that was the goal… the tracks on the snow shakes the truck and it is desired to follow those tracks… I’m newbie into the snow deal, so “mucho” to learn…
The worst error, doing that alone… and that is not related to snow at all, I’m not supposed to be there, period.

Temptation, knowging that you are doing something totally wrong, and keep doing it…. I’m guilty!!!
