The passenger side mirror on my wifes 93 80 broke one of its mounting tabs. The other mounting tab is ok, but the mirror is shaking.

The tab broke off once before, and I glued the tab back on. But this time when it broke, the tab must have fallen through the hole-- so glueing it back on again is not an option.

Is there a duct-tape/bailing wire solution?

Can I get this piece from CruiserDan?

Anybody have a used mirror for sale?

Jared

I have made some fairly complex repairs on plastic with JB Weld. Build a small form out of tape, fill with putty. When dry, redrill mounting hole.

If you are really anal, you can drill a small hole into the face of each broken surface and insert a small piece of metal (paperclip. . .) to strengthen the new piece. Run a loop of metal where the plastic used to be, then fill the mold with the JB Weld.

A little sanding/grinding/drilling and you're back in action.

Sorry SJPITTS but i just went through this.

After multiple failed attempts to repair it i got a new mirror. The part you needed isnt available seperately! You need to buy the WHOLE mirror assembly and its not cheap!

I ended up getting a nice used one from a member on here.

Usually i would go with OEM, but for this particle case, i would go used and try www.car-part.com

EDIT: My repair was to the lower area where the screw actually holds the mirror in place, NOT the area you talk of!

I used 3M black weatherstrip adhesive on mine. It is like a contact cement. It had broken tabs also. I probably just jinxed myself but it has been there 2 years w/ no problems.....

Black RTV works pretty well. If you decide to get a new or a used functioning mirror, put RTV on the tabs before you install it. It will keep the tabs from breaking.

So when you say you use weatherstrip cement-- where do you put it?

I am guess that you glue the broken part (the mirror bracket)to the thing it attaches to?

Is that right?

hi

you can get a new one at this toyota wholesale warehouse for $100 for a power one or$25 for a manual one.1-800-466-2360:beer:

Cheap fix:

I ran a wire from all three mounting points out through the access hole in the bottom of the mirror body and twisted them tight with a washer. Kind of ugly with the little washer there but its tight. Only a temporary fix but it works.

I simply jb welded the birror to the mount plate, I lost some of the adjustment range but it has worked well for about 6 months now. No one but me ever drives my truck anyway.

I had the same thing as you last year. I just epoxied a flat washer onto the plastic in the same spot and she has be fine and rattle free ever since.

I had a broken tab and also the bottom screw. A healthy blob of black RTV on each tab and the screw mount and hold in place for 30 sec's. Has survived a month of washboard dirt roads.

Does anyone know???

can someone tell me the wiring sequence that the 3 wires go back into the mirrors. was getting ready to put mine back in via JB Weld, but that @&@&@&@& is hardcore and I wanna make sure I get the wires in right before they are in for good and my motors don't work. I've had them out for awhile...can't get the motor to work tho...think I blew a fuse or something. Alright then Thanks guys!

Hey Jason

I did this too! I simply pulled the other mirror and check em! They are the same!

I was not able to find the broken tabs. I cleaned the mounting surfaces of the mirror and mounting bracket with MEK, put the adhesive on both pieces (not alot) and let it dry/skin over about 5 minutes. Then slid and pressed the mirror into place on the mounting bracket and allowed to dry...

I just had the same problem on my 80. looked up from loading the trailer and the mirror was hanging from the wires. One of the top mount tabs was broken and the screw was gone as well. Took it home and cleaned it up with solvent. then used a bit of silicone sealer on the top mount tabs and found a new screw to hold it all together again. Good as new and if the mirror ever needs to come off it will be simple to wrestle it off as the silicone will not be that strong.

all good now
