Hi all, has anyone experienced poor life from the rubber exhaust mounts? Less than a year ago I replaced all three with OEM parts and at least one has failed again!

OK the car does get used very day and I live halfway up a hill with a poor access road which is very rutted, I have replaced suspension components on most of my neighbours cars over the last year so it is fair to say the track is a bit rough but less than a year on my new mounts?

Your thoughts?

I would say exhaust it tweaked and stressing the rubber. Those things should last a bit for sure. Not just a yr.

I see your running a diesel , I'm not sure about your truck but you might want to look into putting a flexible joint into the down pipe off the motor if you don't have one yet. should stop you from breaking the mounts

Your engine is probably moving a lot and causing stress on the exhaust. As mentioned above, consider adding smflex sections into the exhaust. Possibly inspect your motor mounts for wear as well.

Hi all and thanks for the idea's, I did check the system for damage and there is none, fair to say it is the original item and is 18 years old but sound.. The engine mounts are fine, usual test and they passed no problems, re the flexible mount this is also in place (OE) so no problem there. Having spent many years as a mech on pretty much anything with an engine I fully agree that something is amiss and have checked what I thought were the obvious culprits but nothing showed hence the reason for asking.

I will get an old unit out and see if the local hardware store has something a bit more substantial, if not then back to Mr T and another set will have to go in. Perhaps I got a bad batch?

Thanks for the input guys, anyone else with any ideas feel free to pitch in.

yeah, mine were all bad and it would squeak and shake and basically annoy me beyond measure. the flex pipe i think made a huge difference in the way it performs now.

The OE spec for UK models is with the flex pipe, I went to my Toyota dealer today to get some new mounts and they had closed down!!:bang:

It seems despite teaming with Audi and sharing workshop facilites ect they could not afford to keep that particula branch open, it is now about 50 miles to the nearest dealer!!!

I am going to spend some time looking on the net to see if I can get OE parts posted to me at a sensible cost.

This will be a RPITA!

Thanks for the input guys, it seems there are no other ideas.

Well the local car spares shop let me browse his catalogue and the rubber is the same as the spanish spec but older version of the 4.0 Land Cruiser, I'm unsure if this is worldwde? Of more importance is it is the same part used on the exhaust of a Renault Safrane although which year/engine I do not know.

The exhaust is sorted now and you can read about it here:
