Hey guys,

I'm usually in the 60 area but figured you could help me.

I just bought (4) FJ80 rims to go on my FJ60. The shop that sold them to me told me they were off a 94 FJ80. Looking at the wheels, I believe they will need the "mag" type lug, and not the shank. I was told the 94 takes the shank type but these rims don't appear to have metal inserts. Confused.

Can anyone confirm this by looking at the picture?

The dealership wants $6 per lug nut. Any after market ones that will work for less?

I appreciate your help in advance.

Acorn style Lug Nuts from NAPA...IIRC They are about $1.50.

acorn=conical and yes, that small champher [sp?] is all that is needed. Mine looked identical.

Well good question. Your pic doesn't look like the hardened, they just look like someone used flat washers before. But like I said, mine looked identical to yours and the acorns worked. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I know the steel wheels have dates stamped on them, But I dont remember if the alloys do, To me they look like the later shank style not the acorn

Buts what is odd was he said his dont have the steel inserts. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have used stainless.

those dont look like they need the acorn 'conical' lugs. the flat face indicates they use the shank style with washer. pricer than the conicals, but our local parts store has em for $4. US prices should be cheaper...

I somewhat ruined a shank wheel when I had it as a spare and put it on with arorns(I had no idea at the time) it took quite a bit to tourque it down and in the end it coned the hole in the shape of the acorns, I dont think it had a metal insert.

Thank you thread!

Ok, so my '94 based on this is conical. There is a diffident acorn shape for the lug nut to fall into with a almost black type cylindrical/cone washer embedded in the rim.

For one I already know I have a snapped lug stud, and 2 the PO used 1 shank (correct?) style lug on the other side (rear). I have been trying to find what in my head would be a washer type rattle noise..... I assume it was from the front somewhere.... nope, jsut went and checked, the one shank lug washer can easily be shooken for the noise heard... bingo.

Do NOT use acorns on those (95-97 rims) ...search for smittycruiser, he found some of the shank style on ebay for a good price.

Thank you for all the help! I wound up going to the Tire Factory and they had the lugs. I got the proper shank style, and went with closed end ones. Only $1.25 each.

Here's a cell phone picture. I'll get better pictures when the storm here in Portland passes.

Shhweeeet! Where abouts in Ptown are you?

I'm in West Linn, but moving to South East Portland in a week with a buddy.

I used 1 1/2" Spacers and they don't appear to rub. I torked them to 100, and was told to do so again in 500 miles. I think the FJ60 wheel caps will work if I modify them. Should be a cool blend between old and new.

Running 275 70 R16's right now, but will go 285 75 R16 Cooper STT's when I do a 2 1/2" OME lift this summer. I'll post up in the 60 area when I get some more pictures. Stoked!
