I finally got some time to start on this project , I prolly should be doing something more important but hey......

I was going to wait until I was complete to post up but I have no will power :crybaby:

The material is 1/8 5052 initially I was trying to do honeycomb , but there were no good deals on material to be found.
What you see is the shell of the main storage compartment , on the right will be a custom fridge slide . On the perimeter of the main system will have hinged "wings" for a flat surface all the way to the aft of the front seats.

More to come ( as soon as there is time)

Nice!!! im diggin it so far. Is that the piano hinge in black running down the top corners? whats gonna suport the outside, more metal structure? :) looking foward to the rest.

The black things are core trax cargo tie down's , Im not sure what you mean by the outside support but it will all be bolted to the floor. Everything will be aluminum welded to a base plate .

Very cool. I was thinking of building mine out of aluminum rather than plywood. Would this be lighter????

Thats the plan anyway ,I hope it will be lighter than ply.

Another big advantage is instead of loosing 1-1/2" by using 3/4 ply.
this applacation is loosing 1/4" by using 1/8" aluminum.
It starts to add up on the cubic inches.

Nice! Are you doing the welding?

Yes , I needed a first project to practice on with the new spool gun.
But it would be cool if someone else was doing the welding, then it would look real nice :) .

But I have learned alot , welding mig aluminum is a little different. :hmm:

Where did you source that locking latch? Any pics or info how it latches on the other side?

Nice job Ken. Let us know what the final weight ends up at.

Nice project design and execution...at least viewing from here :flipoff2:.

Do you have a sheet metal brake? That's another tool I've always wanted...you know the tool list is endless...but the space to put them isn't .
