Who has one ?

Do you like it ?

Do you have any pics of your installation ? and how you haved it set up.

I am considering one of these and want some opinions.

Has anyone come up with an alternative to drilling the floor ?

I have one. Be sure you watch the fuel line under the cargo bed when you drill.

I'd prefer it if it used the third row seat mounting point for the bottom mount instead of drilling through the bed. That would make it easier to remove and replace when you need to load something big.

You can also get some rubber smell in your vehicle if you use it as a permanant solution. I mount the tire under the bed unless I'm offroading, and move it to the mount before trips.

Overall, I have yet to find a better solution, as I didn't want to block tailgait access with a rear bumper mount.

I am considering one of these, too. I cringe every time I look at my truck from the rear end with the low hanging spare and the even lower earth spade factory hitch. The hitch has to go this weekend.

I am figuring the interior tire mount will eat up about half the rear storage (already pulled the jump seats out). Can someone post a pic from the rear, open, with the tire mounted up? I want to see how bad it would be.

I thought the same thing.

I don't notice a rubber smell at all with the exception of when a brand new tire is put in there but even then it dissipates after a week or so.

With the pole and a 35" tire mounted to it there's room for one 3rd row seat.

Wow! Anything that takes up that much room in my cruiser had better have a name and qualify as a tax deduction!

The carrier in my old heep was pretty noisy. Whenever I'd go wheeling the rubber would be squeaking against anything it was in contact with. How is it in this set up? I know the floor is carpeted vs. the plastic covered bed in the heep, so that would help.

Dang, that's about what I expected. Oh well, my dogs will still fit!

I know this is from several years ago, but is there anything out there that uses the 3rd row seat mount as a lower mounting point now? Or any other options other than custom built? Otherwise I'll probably be giving slee a call for his.

Nothing currently manufactured that uses the 3rd row seat mount. 5 years ago or so someone was making a spare tire mounting bracket that attached there. I haven't seen one around in a long time. The last one I saw was in man-a-fre's garage sale section and iirc someone on here bought it.

I just got off the phone with Slee, they did run another batch of these Mounting Bars.

Get em while they have em :)

Sorry, slight hijack, but somewhat related comment...what about a rear tire carrier that folds down instead of swinging out, folding to where the spare is under the bed when fully lowered. Would it stick out too far? Just an idea...

Cheers,

VERY good idea.. :hhmm:

I'm going to be building a interior tire mount this weekend that mounts on the 3rd row seat. I'll try to document it as much as I can, and record the coveted angle of that mounting point...

When you say mounts on the 3rd row seat... do you mean using the bracket that's bolted to the floor? I've been thinking that if I can find an extra mount that is usually attached to the 3rd row seat I would use that as the lower mount and connect the other end of the vertical bar as Slee did (the O-sh!t grip mount). This way it would only take about 2 bolts to undo, then slid off the lower part of the mount. This way I could easily switch between carrying the spare or the 3rd row seats (just not both at the same time)

SO if anyone is willing to donate or sell me the drivers side mount attached to the 3rd row seat, let me know.
