Below is text from a thread, It lists the HF series fits behind the A440F and A442F gear trannys in 80 series. These transmissions are also used on FJ62. Does this imply the transfer cases use on FJ62 will also fit on A series trannies? Will a FJ62 tranny fit an FZJ80. Is there a list of transfer case to transmission compatibility.

Transmissions fit behind the following gearboxes:
HF1A - H150F, H151F, A440F, A442F
HF2A - H140F, H150F, H151F, A440F, A442F

I have no idea but would like to know the answer for this:idea:

The T-case from a FJ62 will not directly replace the T-case in a FZJ80. You will also have to swap the A440F transmission output shaft into your A442F and use the FJ62 T-case adapter to get everything to bolt together. As the A442F is electronically controlled, you will have to find a way to mount a VSS on the FJ62 T-case adapter as it never came with one.

The photo is of the front half of a FJ62 T-case behind a A442F with the FZJ80 T-case adapter. You can see that none of the bolt holes line up and the A442F output shaft is too short and incorrectly splined to accept the T-case input gear.

Bumping an old thread, what about a HF2A installed where a split case was.

My scenario is a bit different, I have a cummins/NV4500/AA to split case/split case but to make things simple lets pretend I have an FJ60 trans in an 80 series and want to put a AWD case behind it.

Edit, also the AA shouldnt leak fluid out to a case behind it, I don't have the lubrication situation between the two, mostly I'm trying to find out of the shaft is compatible if I cut it down and built an adapter.

double edit, looks like the same spline, it may work to make an adapter (cut plate to match output of adapter and input of HF2A, weld tube between) and cut the output shaft from the adapter down.
