Finally got the bumpers mounted on the truck. They've been sitting in Jose's shop for months (even through a move - thanks Jose).

Both are excellent work. I worked with Jim to design the rear to spec, and I think it came out really nicely. Front is obviously off the shelf - mounted a set of driving lights I had lying around. I'll replace them with some fancy toyota ones from mot when the funds allow.

Let me know what you think.

I'm liking SROR's dual swingout. It's the first time I've seen him build a rear bumper this way. I also really like the ladder setup. If I were to add one to my Slee bumper, I'd do it the same way. Follow the contour of the body line rather than just a straight up and down ladder. Very nice!!!

Nice dual swing out. I like the ladder feature as well but wonder can you slip a hi-jack mount in there as well or is roof rack mounting better? I am thinking roof rack.

Absolutely great! Neat, tidy, functional, and, ironically, what I think Jim was talking to me about when we talked last night. Best of luck!

Very nice all around. The way a 60-series should be!

Answers to questions -

DBS311 - I believe this was Jim's first dual swing-out. Very well executed. Body line ladder came from my corner - I think it looks better, and provides more of a foothold, than the narrow ones. Also asked him for the expanded steel as I've heard horror stories about wet/muddy ladder rungs and chins/teeth. Downside to the width is no jerry can (you can squeeze both in on some designs). But I'm seldom far enough away from civilization to need it.

87CRUSR - there's a hi-lift mount on the ladder - the two tabs on the inside upright of the ladder. I'll take some better pics and update the thread soon.

Junky - I like the idea of a half-rack. I just got the HJ60 mirrors, so for the moment I have all the aerodynamic drag I can handle. I look on CL and here from time to time, when the right rack comes along I'll grab it. The ARB rack is pretty as all hell but really expensive. Thoughts?

Norris - He pulled this off very, very well. I wouldn't hesitate to use the design, it works really well. The one hitch came from my corner - I asked him to bring the whole thing as tight to the body as he could. Well, he succeeded admirably there too, to the extent that my rear wiper doesn't move. So I'd give back about a half inch to an inch on the "tight" mandate.

All in all, it works great. No significant wind noise, and both are very functional. I finally have recovery points, so I'm looking forward to needing them when I wheel (at some point, hopefully soon) with Gotham.

Jg that is looking great- I really like the direction you went with Jim. Did you do any rear 1/4 protection? I cant tell from the photos.

I had an ARB for a while and I absolutely loved it. Then I sold it to fund my front bumper+winch project. :frown: This time around I think I'll go INTI, but I'm not sure of its availability.

Beautiful!
How is the license plate mounted to the tire please? I have a bumper from sror, but no plate mount.

thanks,
J

I have been wondering about the ladder- How strong is it? Does it support your weight without flexing into the rear hatch? Would you do anything different in retrospect?

jgordon-Since you are fishing for compliments, that looks fantastic. Specific comments:

Front: I have front and rear bumpers from 4+ on my Fj40. They are the stoutest hunks of metal on the planet, and if that bumper is as beefy as it looks, you will be very happy. The guy that makes the 4+ stuff for MAF sometimes posts on the board as lcwizard. All of his stuff is just stupid nice. That front especially looks great on FJ60s, and I wish I had one.

Rear: What can you say? SROR just keeps getting better. That is very clean and nice. I like the over-engineered reinforcements on the tire carrier. It looks strong enough to use as a recovery point. I would be happy to sport one on my ride. Not really a criticism, but everyone seems to be getting ladders on the swing out, when it seems like a can carrier would be more practical, but then everyone's needs are different. I like it and don't think you could have done better.

Very good looking FJ60.

ladders are not easy but they are a change o'pace.

:D

Jim really makes nice stuff.

side note, Jim sorry that I did not call ya when I was in town. The only LC thing I had ANY time for was to pick up the 45LV for Gene :(

BTW, I like the concept of a gas can/ladder mount :)

That is the rear bumper of my dreams. I have some SROR sliders, and i have started a rear bumper fund.

i love that rear bumper that jim made,i'll get one someday.saving up my lunch money :D.awesome job as always jim. john

Looks good, but for the love of humanity turn the whitewalls back in :D :D :D

kidding aside, it's a great combo to have.
